how is vertically inverted any different than vertically regular as far as the mounting goes? there's not 1.5 or so inches of wood to help hold it, i'm just saying out of personal experience.

every test I've seen decibels were lost when sub was inverted. I'd be careful with what you use to mount that with and how you mount it, that 100 or so pound motor wont be very nice to those screws if you mount it vertically and inverted.

Is it a hatchback car? if it is you can probably pull it off, but you'll have to be patient with it and practice your angles. not sure how big a 2 door trunk car is in the rear, so I can't say anything there. just study a lot and don't jump into building.

Well that's ignorant. OP, I would do 2 10's. It's better to be able to fit a box in the trunk rather than squeezing in a 15. Aren't sunfires hatchbacks? I'd go with whichever you want/have the room for. If you study enough before you purchase, you'll be able to make either setup equally as loud.
