yet ANOTHER Ninja pic - SMD LC-2 rendering
TheBetterMethod replied to meade916's topic in Head Units-Processors and Eq's
^Yeah man, doesn't make sense. Then again, it's just a rendering. -
I'd still try adjusting the gain on the amp down. It could be an issue.

killed a level 6 coil
TheBetterMethod replied to gredysra's topic in DC Sound Lab - Big Bass on ANOTHER LEVEL!
^That's what I thought. Did you destroy the tinsels or something? That coil looks clean. -
Hey guys, I'm looking for the best High CFM 80mm fans. I don't do anything with computer modding, so I'm unfamiliar with brands. I'm installing an amp under a false floor with probably 2 80mm fans for cooling. I'm planning on one for intake the other exhaust. Looks to me like 30cfm is pretty standard, but I found ultra high speed fans that flow 50-80 or more. I probably don't need that kind of power, but it cant hurt either. SO I'm looking for recommendations on the best brands or certain brands to stay away from. Thanks, TheBetterMethod

Something like that John. You should be making some money off of all those drawings. You're pretty good at it.

No, it's 28in. and I'll have about 7-8in. to the hatch from the port. That's probably another generational difference. And the final volume of the box ends up at about 3.5-6, so the ratio for the port is about 8:1. The ratio is a little close and is on the small side I KNOW, but I'm sure it'll be fine... or it won't.

Final dimensions are set. Construction has begun and should be complete structurally this weekend. Box is 24 x 13.5 x 28. Port is one 6in aero 17in. long. I actually ended up going with MDF. When I saw the crappy birch they had at Lowe's I changed my mind. I had the guy at Lowe's cut the boards, and he did a pretty great job. I'm impressed. Anyway, thanks for the input guys! I'll update this as I see fit.

That's too bad man. I guess I can't blame you seeing as how I don't have a build log either. Thanks for the luck though, I'll need it. I think it'll work out pretty well.

I can shrink the box slightly to 24x27.5 And I end up with a port ratio of 7.94:1 That might be better. Net volume drops to just under 3.6.

John, I appreciate the effort your putting into trying to convince me to use a slot port. But I'm not going to use a slot port this time. I'm pretty set on the Aero, so that's what I'll be using.

Ok. I just did some more measurements and made some considerations. I think I'll can the original idea, and go with a box with a more traditional port orientation. I'm thinking 24x13.5x29.5 Port internal and to the hatch. Sub up, toward the rear of the box, above the port. It looks like I'll be able to get up to about 6in. between the port and hatch. So I guess that's that, unless someone comes up with something else before I start cutting wood. Thanks again to everyone for their input. Anymore input is also welcome!

Yeah man, I'm planning on sub up, port back. There might be a difference between generations, mine is the generation of Outback after yours, but I want to be able to slide the box all the way against the back of the seat and be able to slide the cargo cover over it. There's only about about 15 inches to play with under the cover. But I think it is about 16.5 to the window line, so they must be similar. Do you have a build log so I can take a look at your box? I'd really like to see it.
-
Oh, and I don't have room for the sub to point forward or back, because of box height limitations.
-
Alright, thanks for the replies. I'm running into some restrictions. My box can only be 13in. tall and 40.5in. wide. Those dimensions are pretty well set in stone, if I want to use an external port. Which I do. And if I use the external port I have a length limitation of about 36in. and at that length the port would be basically touching the hatch and the front of the box would be against the back of the seat. I really don't have room for 2 6in. ports and definitely won't be using 4 4in. ports. So I'm back to the single 6in. port. And I know the ratio is about 7:1, but I don't think that's going to be a big deal. I might be wrong on that, but I'm willing to give it a shot. If it doesn't work out I'm ready to chop, cut and rebuild. The way I've got it figured is 3.8cu.ft. after all displacement. And a port about 15in. long. for tuning around 32hz. I don't want to do a slot port, because of the inability to adjust after they're built, and the extra work of building one. BTW, I'm powering it with 1200 watts. Might upgrade to 1500 if I see a need. Thanks again for all the input.
