actually i did some looking around and found a regular ac-dc power supply for like 30 bucks. im going to pick up one of those, its like the same price and i wont have to mess with switches or possibly burning anything up.

ok just to get this right, you would wire up that relay and then run one wire to the amps and split it into 3? or then run the remote like how the OP has it after the relay? or how... thanks

ok cool, it would actually be 4 speakers, (if you saw that thread on the wal-mart deal on a pioneer hu and 4 speakers thats what i got). but the other 2 would be in a separate boxes mounted in the garage. and no amp. just something to listen to not anything like what steve has created... but actually i just thought of a different idea for the box that would work good with the power supply separate in the back with a couple little fans on it. i just thought a power supply would be cheaper then one of those 12v power supply things. thanks guys.

ive got 2 polk audio 10s under the back seat of my dodge ram and its pretty loud. one 10 was good but i wanted a little more. anyway look at my build log and see the boxes that i have, they are tiny little guys and work awesome. i would suggest something similar to go behind the seats??

hey ive done a little research on the subject but couldnt get real clear answers on a couple things. first off has anyone done this? i was thinking of taking a computer power supply and hooking it to a head unit to give it its 12 volts. then hook up a couple speakers and put them in boxes and wolla. my questions- will a power supply last long inside a sealed box with only the fan that is on the unit itself? i was going to build a box to mount under a cabinet with 2 speakers and the HU in it. what would you suggest to do? thanks

those threads are welded in. Welds are never great ground points. they always create resistance. always they cant be welded in or else you wouldnt be able to take the strut out and replace it. its usually a presses fit or bolted on the bottom. they may weld it for extra strength but that wont effect the conductivity b/c its still in contact with the rest of the rest of the body and the rest of the strut, which is attached to the the entire car basically.

ok still no... but yes it is a fine ground... and like i already pointed out.... if you ever looked underneath a car, there IS NO FRAME. and a subframe would be made of aluminum. please, do some research, or even better just go look at your own car, or your moms car. trucks are different because they do have frames, but cars do not. they are whats called unibodies. the body of the car is the frame, it is the whole structure of the car. no frames. im not going to argue with you because i hope the op has the common since do do his own research and not listen to either of us. and this thread is not about what a car is made of. but please google it. anyway like i already said. check all your wires and make sure your alternator wire did not somehow get grounded out.

and also... cars now a days dont have frames either so good luck with that... and if you dont believe me then do some research before you tell people stuff. just s simple Google search will give you the answers... and if the magnet doesnt stick then that panel of that car is probably plastic, still not aluminum.

why in the world would the body of the car and the strut mount bolt or either of them be aluminum? an all aluminum body would make a very expensive car... and not a very strong strut mount (which has a 1.4 of the whole cars weight being forced up on it...

i dont want to disagree with you but that is a very good ground spot. as long as he kept his factory ground also and he ground it down to bare metal. but the strut mount bolt is connected to the whole body and with a very thick spot of metal. not like the factory one that goes to the thinnest spot on the car.
