Get a dmm and check the red the yellow and the ground. when the car is on the red should have 12v. it should always have 12 volts on the yellow...

If it can be done you will have to put in a little work. Even though it's 2011, unless your riding a Tahoe extra alternators are still rare and custom setups. You will need to find someone with metal fabrication and welding skills to make u a bracket that fits, since u claim the room is there. You would be hard pressed to get anyone to make that bracket without that car in front of them.

redo it with some 10 gauge wire, check your resistance. I would think something was shorting as to burn it...
