go for cheap mids until you get the sub in. Then buy some nice component speakers. Component speakers WILL need more power though because of the tweeters :/

Put time and effort into designing a building a box and you will be much more satisfied with it. I personally haven't finished my box yet, but I have a few buddies that have done multiple builds and their system is amazing compared to pre-fab boxes

Unless they were stock then that is a very good posibility, I've done that in many cars already before upgrading the sound system. Personally I like the Polk Audio line of speakers, there is the db and the dxi series which is essentially the same thing, just made different years. Check out DXI's they're rated at 6-60wrms and I've had no problems with mine. I have a pair of 6.5 and a pair of 4x8 I think? I forget what size my rear speakers are already. If you look on ebay and amazon you can find new for that price range that you want.

DC level 3 will take a LONG time to get to you because they make the higher level subs and ship them first, I was put on back order for months so I canceled my order and just went with 2 SA-12s instead. Have you given sundown any thought at all? They are great for the price, especially if you can catch their sales

From what I understand, if you play from your ipod then you are losing sound quality. Apparently ipods compress the files which is why this happens. You might have heard that CD is better quality than ipod, that would make sense.

I like the old box the new one sounds louder, I have heard from others that labrynth ports can be detrimental to SPL just so you know, but overall it looks neat and clean, great job

I'm using an SA-12 in my box until I can order a VVX-12 Why would you get rid of an SA-12 for a VVX-12? It's all about price, I already have 2 SA-12s in my house, I want to give Skar a shot

I just looked at it, shows mounting information for all sizes. 11 1/8 is what it shows. that is the cutout diameter, I'm looking for mounting diameter (screws)

I have my own home audio that was bedlined and that stuff is tough. I love the texture so I think i might go with that if I can. I just need to get a price quote from someone or do it myself

Alright, I took in all your ideas and suggestions and I used the most realistic suggestions for the tools that I have to use. It's also my first box, it doesn't have to be perfect. So here is what I've got so far. I have the port painted and I'm starting to prep the exterior of the box for a good painting. I'm just going to apply 2 coats of primer then black speckled paint unless I can get my hands on some cheap bedliner

Thanks man. And actually the amp is already screwed down in that pic lol, I just did it temporarily on that piece. I got some mdf left that I'm gonna use to set the amp up a couple different ways and see what I like best, then I'll make it look much nicer. And I already built it with the bracing, and actually, after I screwed them in, I could tell it was quite a bit more solid. So maybe unnecessary, but only cost a few bucks and probably helped at least a little. But I didn't include the big 45 on the bottom. Cutting the 45s was somewhat of a pita (my only tool is a circular saw), so as I was cutting all the pieces I was just like fuckit, I'll just leave it out and have a lower tuning. Now it's tuned to about 32.8 or so. I still think I might go back and cut that piece and mount it just to see how it sounds. Yeah I'm running the amp at 2 ohms, but I set the gains with a DMM to 300W. After I finished the box, I threw it in there and only got to listen for a couple minutes. I was fucking exhausted after 2 full days of work on this thing, plus I was excited and woke up too damn early each morning to work on it lol. But I'll take more time to listen and get more pics up this weekend or next (depending on how studying for finals goes.) Why yes I do have a build log, meow it's not finished yet so there is more to come. But tomorrow there should be more up on me painting my port and using wood filler to get the edges good and clean.... we'll see how it goes. It's currently assembled and test fitted for my car, but that's really about it, I still need to disassemble it, glue the edges, caulch it up, and reassemble da bish

how about using a wood filler to make the edges flush? I just got this stuff in today so I'll see how it goes when I start it tomorrow. I'm too tired tonight because this was my first full time week of the summer lol

I only glued the port walls together. I didn't glue anything else for the sole purpose of being able to take out the port and paint it seperate to the interior of the box

I plan on just putting a 45 degree angle peice in there, how I plan on making a 45 degree angle with the tools that I have is the first step

Hey everyone, I'm at the painting stage and I'm holding off because I know the absorbant power or MDF to paint lol. I'm looking for help on how to prepare my box to be painted. I have given primer some thought but I want advice from the pro's of SMD out there have have already painted many boxes. Also I want the port to be a different color than the exterior of the box, what is the best way to go about doing that??? I don't think that I will set my gains that low, it makes sense for you thought because the IVX series are rated at 300wrms right? I know the VVX series is rated at 600wrms but I'll see if I need to even have my gains set that high
