  1. Interesting topic with good info. I'm just now getting into learning some of the less talked about topics like this.
  2. From what I understand, these meters don't use a microphone to measure SPL as accurately as they do. Any microphone that I have seen can't really withstand the pressure levels exerted by most systems. I believe they use a method of measure pressure changes instead which apparently costs a lot more than most would expect. Without actually checking, that's what I have been able to tell. Not fact, a guesstimate.
  3. Will be roughly 5kw. EDIT: I mean, I have nothing against going smaller on the enclosure if needed and may even switch the design back to one I had with a couple DD 9512s or might even try to push my carpentry limits and go for a couple 15s with an angled front to allow the subs to fit. Considering a couple 12s have more cone area than 4 8's that might be my route (I'm currently running 2 Fi BL 12s). I'm still in the early stages of planning the rebuild I guess. I still need more welding cable, batteries, and sound deadener before I can go after the new subs/enclosure, but there is no harm in planning everything out before I go and drop yet ANOTHER 3 grand. I'm pretty solid on my requirement of everything being sealed off from the trunk though and I would really prefer not to cut up the panel below the rear windshield to have upward facing port(s). I'm still a newbie in my eyes and have a lot left to learn.
  4. If you can tell me how I can fit 4 12s in a width of 39" I would be more than happy to do so. My reasoning for this is mainly to have both the subs and the port forward facing instead of unloading a huge portion of its energy into rattling my trunk.
  5. Yea, it doesn't look like I'll even be able to make it work with only a ~1/2" flare anyway. I completely overlooked that. I'll probably end up making a sort of hybrid square port and try rounding as many edges as I can and hoping that will work well enough. Thanks for the help guys. Gosh, it's so hard trying to get things to fit in a car that isn't a hatchback.
  6. Thanks for the response fecupe2001! I loved your thread with how you tested small things that can increase dB. I would try my hand at making my own flared aeroports out of PVC, but I can't seem to find 8" PVC at any local hardware stores and the places I have found online cost more shipped than I would want to pay for something I need to modify so heavily.
  7. So, I am thinking about changing some stuff up and I'm playing with the idea of running 4 Sundown Audio SA-8 V.2s in my 05 Impala. My only restriction other than size is that I want the subs AND port to be forward-facing so that I can seal the enclosure from the rest of the trunk area. Rear seats aren't folding ones but will be either out completely or will be converted into folding. My maximum external dimensions are 39"W x 17"H x 40"D. Although, I don't want to have the depth maxed out so that I have room for batteries. What I have so far is this enclosure measuring 39"W x 17"H x 25"D leaving me with 7.9 ft³ net volume and roughly 6.85 ft³ after displacement of only the subs. I haven't decided if I want to have an internal or external port, but I do want it to be an 8" aeroport, preferably flared. Only difference would be that I would have a second front baffle for more strength. The following is a rendering of the above enclosure: The center "ring" would be the port. The half inch gap between the circles is for the mounts. What I need to know is two things (unless there are other suggestions of course); 1. Where can i buy an 8" aeroport? I'd prefer to do this without spending upwards of $100 or spend more time than I want making a mold to flare hard to find PVC myself. There was one person, Derrick, on another forum that was selling them for pretty cheap, but he stopped on the 22nd of last month (of course I'm late). There was another, Adrian_D, on yet another forum that sells just the flares for $65, but that's overpriced in my opinion. 2. Are there any advantages/disadvantages between internal and external ports beyond the obvious? I haven't decided on if I want to do an internal or external port, but in either case, I would like it if it were removable to be able to change the tuning in the future. Any advice or help is appreciated. TLDR: Where can I buy an 8" aeroport?
  8. Let us know how it works. I want to do something similar. Have like 10 PSUs lying around. If I can set something up even for like 100w I'll be happy.
  9. There is always something you can do about the folding seats. Right now in my 05 impala (which also doesn't have folding seats) I'm working on actually converting them to folding. You can also cut a hole in the top of the rear allowing sound waves to enter the cabin easier. I only mention this to hopefully spark some ideas since I can tell you don't REALLY need advice (especially not from me).
  10. might have to put in some over time for one of these I know how you feel. I work overtime every chance I get just in anticipation for stuff like this. Brother wants my current 3500D and I figured it would be a good chance to get the v.2 once possible. Haha its a horrible addiction. When I began with car audio I had no clue and spent about 1000 on a basic set up and little by little upgrading and switching out parts I realized I spent over 3K in like 2 months thats when I realized I had a problem I wouldn't call it a PROBLEM. I lean more towards calling it an accomplishment. ;-)

  12. Love you bro, no homo. Going into full SA nuthugger mode over here.
  13. Any word on pre-sale on these? Might be in the market for a new 3500D and would like to grab one of these.
  14. Bump, no one knows where I can learn more about sound waves and how they work for me to be able to work with this?
