  1. Getting vendors to look at you is the easy part, just have a big wad of cash in your hand. Getting customers to look at you, that is another story alltogether.
  2. Xpress kit XK01 or the XK09, XK01 would be the first choice but either will work.
  3. Yes, you only need 2 outputs, but you need 6 or more speaker inputs. You need to grab all of the speaker outputs of the BMW amp so that the RCAs give you full range output. So lets say the BMW amplifier has six speaker wires, 2 for tweeters, 2 for mids, and 2 for subs. The DQL-8 takes all 6 speaker wires and sums them and creates a full range output on the TWO RCA jacks. If you use a 2 channel LOC and connect it to only one of those pairs of speaker wires you will only get the frequencies that those speaker wires put out. So if you were to grab the tweeter wires you will only get high frequency range, if you grab the sub wires you will only get the low frequency range. You can't just connect all of the speaker outputs together because that would damage the BMW amp. I hope this makes sense.
  4. You will just end up doing it twice with the LC2i. The Logic 7 system has mutiple speaker outputs with different frequency ranges on each pair, ie, tweeter, mids, sub, etc. You need a LOC that will take all of the speaker outputs of the factory amp and "sum" them to give you a full range output on the RCAs, the LC2 only has one pair of speaker level inputs. Do it right, or do it twice.
  5. FYI, the watts that the interface can handle is referring to the OUTPUT of the head unit (or factory amp in your case) that are connected to the high level inputs of the device. It has nothing to do with how much power you are running downstream of the RCA outputs of the LOC. The Audio Control DQL-8 will do the job.

  7. Correct, because a true audio system has balanced power to all the speakers and a quality amplifier running the mids and highs.
  8. if you dont come off as a bitter shop owner I dont know who does. Fortunately, I have never owned a shop. I have only worked for car audio manufacturers. So I am a bitter car audio industry professional. I have no problem admitting that. But, also, fortunately I work in the pro A/V industry now and still have a great job but I did enjoy car audio and am very sad to see where it has gone. I wouldnt be bitter. Im sure installing some of that high end pro audio would make me far more giddy than anything a car can do. You're right and good point! Hey nice to see you running some Orion. I am building an entire system with Orion right now. Even though no one seems to know about them anymore and they are owned by Directed the product is very solid.

Car Audio may have died down in some areas but it certainly is not dead and further more there are plenty of companies sponsoring cars it's just not an easy thing to get into. Since you are "Out of the Industry" why are you a member of a Car Audio forum. May I add that if you check numbers of some of the popular main stream brands sales in recent years have crept back up, Car Audio is like anything else it has its trends sometimes its hot sometimes its not but best believe it will never die. I am a member of a car audio forum because I am still an audio enthousiast. I am still building vehicles and installing car audio in my own vehicles. I just don't work for car audio company any more. I started in the business in the 80s and some may say that I am glamorizing the past but car audio was a great business at one point with sound quality and installation techniquue being a big focus. Each year it was exciting to see the innovations made at CES. Now with the exception of a few small companies, car audio is all about who can make the cheapest amp with the most power and as long as the amp survives it is a success. Cheap is what sells, that pretty much sums it up and I am glad to be out of that business. Just stating a fact, its a free country. No my friend you are voicing an opinion. Car Audio may not be what "You" think it is but it is still very much alive and very innovative. Some mainstream brands may produce shit products but that don't mean that's what its all about. I mean last time I checked some of the biggest and most popular competitors don't even use the mainstream brands any fool off the street would recognize. Whether or not your believe it this industry is alive and well. With your mind state believe me a lot of us are glad you are out of this industry negativity is what kills and yours was unnecessary. My advise to the guy looking for sponsorship was spot on, "friend" and that is coming from someone who has build around a dozen cars for SEMA and had plenty of sponsorship myself. The rest was my opinion, thats cool, I am glad we are all glad. Alive and well is your "opinion". I dont think they guys that worked at Eclipse think it is alive and well. Or Kenwood that got bought up by JVC, or Orion, PPI and ADS that went bankrupt or MB Quart that went under. How about Hifonics that used to be a good brand. Then there are the companies that laid off 1000s of employees combined. Do they think it is "alive and well". Maybe alive but certainly not well. There is a small group of competitors and hardcore guys in the niche that high end audio has because. That does not mean the "industry" is alive and well. That is my opinion based on many facts, This is a forum where people are allowed to express opinions, or I thought it was.

  12. Spend the money and build some incredible rides that get tons of exposure at national shows (like SEMA) and magazine exposures. Then take that history of success and present it to the companies that you are looking at and then they will consider you. Even then, there are 100 other people building incredible cars so at that point relationships and connections help. Why would any companies give away products to someone simply because they hit up all the shows and can't afford gear for their car. That is who they want to SELL products to. In fact car audio is so dead that you are about the only customers anymore. So good luck finding a company to give away free products to their last few remaining customers. That will put the nail in the coffin of car audio for sure. RIP Car Audio. Glad I am out of that industry!

  14. I was an installer from 1987 - 1995 and worked for 5 different shops in the San Diego area and the 5th one (out of those 5) I worked for was the only shop that had a scope. From 1995 - 2009 I worked for two different manufacturers both in the top 10 of largest american car audio brands and during that time, I never saw anyone pull out a scope to adjust the gains on any of the cars that went to SEMA or CES. Not really any point to this, just saying. Lol, so your basicly telling me there is no point in setting my gains with a o-scope or DD-1?... haha i disagree but maybe that's just me. I am not judging any procedures, I am stating the fact that one of the largest car audio companies in the world, one that is a topic of discussion on this forum all the time, does not use an o-scope to set gains on the CES and SEMA cars. I choose not to name the company because I don't want to start a whole manufactures flame thread. Using a scope is always better assuming that the person setting them knows how to use a scope but obviously some people have the ability to set by ear with decent results. I work for a commercial audio company now and we always set gains with a RTA and mic.

  16. The optimum enclosure is more like 3.75 cu. ft. per 12" L7 with a large port. I cannot remember the size of the port but if you call over there to Kicker they will give you the dims (don't ask a sales rep, they don't know). If you are lucky and anyone is left at Kicker that knows anything about car audio then they will give you the hot setup for that sub. I have built many of them used in PA systems at events and in event semis and they crank with big QSC amps running them. If you want to get straight to the best source there at Kicker, try to get a hold of Kip. If you can't get him then try tech support but good luck.
  17. Not unless the car is going to be in a booth at SEMA (with a committment in writing from the company with the booth). Partial sponsorship is nothing more than a percentage off retail. Go on Ebay and get every part they make below dealer cost and drive happy.
