Best/Cheap place to get a H/O Alt
dubknight replied to Winn's topic in Electrical-battery- Alternators- Wiring
Gonna interject and say EVERY SINGLE alternator company has had some seriously bad reviews. I don't care who they are, it's because alternators fail! It just happens. NOW, if it's customer service that's the issue, that is a totally different story, but none of the companies mentioned to my knowledge have that issue. An Ebay alternator however.. I might be personally weary unless you have established good communication from the seller. Warranty is a good one to find out! If you are purchasing an alternator from a company and it doesn't do rated, I don't know a single established company that will not honor a return. And to that, I have personally been dealing with Excessive amperage and know two people personally who have purchased through him and their alts work perfectly, do rated, and have had zero issues. This is also true for Iraggi. I'm sure another person could chime in about ohio and mechman and every other company.. As a note to everyone, don't go steering people away from companies without evidence, saying you've heard "bad stories" doesn't back it up. Link to those stories, explain the issue that you heard about. -
RF 6.5 punch's If those are the only options. I personally have heard them (neither of the other two) and they sounded pretty good. I've heard better, but not for 50-60 bucks

STS Turbo
dubknight replied to dubknight's topic in Engine and Performance - Anything for that couple extra horses!
Definitely considering everything if I were to go with forced induction. I am going to be doing a custom intake and exhaust and seeing how much horsepower that is going to give me. If it puts me within reasonable power for adding in 700 pounds to the car then I won't have to worry about additional power..but if it doesn't, I may have to either start my entire project on a different vehicle, or, swallow the $ bullet and go all out on the Elantra. STS got back to me and they said the definitely have people buy kits and install them on inline 4's although they don't have specs on horsepower increases or performance. *sigh* -

Awesome man. I hope my 2 18's might be able to do a small hairtrick at 6000 watts *fingers crossed* -

2005. Sedan, not the hatchback, and It's the "GT" trim which is a bunch of bs marketing, pretty sure all they did was give it a leather interior, and "sports tuned" suspension (riiiiiight). -

From what I've read this is almost their biggest selling point. Low heat, high efficiency, and it seems incredibly easy to install. To quote them: "Lower underhood temperatures. No need to worry about melting wires, hoses, or other engine components, as with a front-mounted turbo. Ease of installation. STS turbo systems can be installed in about 8 hours with standard tools and average mechanical ability. " -

Trust me I've already gotten more shit for even owning an Elantra, hear me out.. Stock curb weight of an 05 Elantra GT sedan is 2650 @ 135 horsepower. Giving a ratio of 102HP/Ton. Pretty "meh". Adding in a sound system that's going to weigh: 2 18's - 150 3 D3100's - 240 1 Dsomething for the front- 40-50? 2 amps - 60 Wall/enclosure - 150 2 hi-op-Alts& bracket - 20? Possibly more? Wiring/sound deadener/plexiglas/any other stuff that goes in - ##? Estimating conservatively that's going to be in the 700 pound club. Now we have an elantra weighing 3350 pounds with the same horsepower of 135. That's 80 HP/Ton. That's DISMAL! The easiest, end of the day most efficient $/HP is forced induction. If I push 175 horsepower with an STS turbo I will only be breaking even with a STOCK Elantra. I'm curious to the numbers it could push with a turbo. Sure I get it. It's a 2.0 inline 4 banger for Korea, front wheel drive, in a "meh" car to most people. And so I get why people are like wtf why? But I love this car. So why not do things no one has ever done before with it? When I finish this build, I feel many people would appreciate the hard work and effort that went into it. -

I sent them an email, hopefully they'll get back to me in a timely manner. I would be getting this for the added power for hauling an extra 600 pounds in the back of an elantra lol. Hardly for racing, turbo lag is irrelevant to me (: Although from what little reading I have done, it seems there actually is very little difference in turbo lag, and actually can do full boost by 3k rpm according to their website.. Wow.. Glad she is alive. I used to text and drive all the time and now I've limited it to texting while i'm at a red light not moving whatsoever. I had one close call last year when I went to glance down at a text (while hiding it of course since the laws passed to make it illegal. And I was nearly t-boned by a guy who ran a red light but I was too busy looking at my texts as I was going down the road. The front of his car missed mine by i'd say 5 feet. I was going 45 he was going probably about 55 60 trying to beat the red light (which he missed by a good 2 seconds. Would have been disgusting. Don't text and drive. And on that note - technology catch the F up! Where's the perfect text to speech and speech to text encoders?

0 gauge runs?
dubknight replied to Stee-Z's topic in Off Topic - Random, Misc posts - the forum "Junk Drawer"
Alts output is max of 500 about 300 idle. The issue being one outputs 200 and the other 300. So i'm sure i'm in for a wiring conundrum. -
0 gauge runs?
dubknight replied to Stee-Z's topic in Off Topic - Random, Misc posts - the forum "Junk Drawer"
Since it's in the topic I have a 0 gauge question. Running 5000 watts RMS on two amps (2500 a piece) getting juice from two alternators pushing about 500 amps at revs. If every rating I see about 1/0 wire says 300 amps, does this mean that I would need to run two 1/0 power wires to my secondary batteries from the front? Sorry if this is a no brainer question. -
2 12" Bls on RF 2500bdcp
dubknight replied to Crump's topic in Member Videos - Host 'em & Post 'em! System Vids / Off Topic
its running @ 2 ohms actually, the bdcp does similar power at 1 and 2 ohms. 2 ohms is just more efficient Just read up a little bit about the amps, there are two: T2500-1bdCP and a T2500-1bd. Where the CP (Continuous Power) makes 2500 watts at 1 or 2 ohms. Good note to anyone out there looking into them, wonder what the efficiency is running 2500 at 2 ohms. -

Nice man, I'm actually looking into possibly running the 2500's in my system. What are you running it at, 1 Ohm? -
