  1. Thanks HHR Ed. That sounds pretty impressive. Now I can't wait to get everything together and try my first ported box!
  2. Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll try my hand at ported then!
  3. I mostly listen to heavy metal music that has fast double bass kick drums. My question is, would 12" subs in a ported box be able to keep up and not sound like one note (or muddy) in a ported box? I am planning on buying 3 DC Level 4 dual 2ohm 12's, wired in series/parallel (1.33 ohms) to a DC 5.0K. I have a 2007 F150 extended cab that will have upgraded electrical when I do the build. I know tuning a box to around 30hz - 35Hz is supposed to be good for sound quality, and I'm not concerned about SPL #'s... I just want to be as loud as possible for the music I listen to. I want some opinions on this because I don't want to build a big ported box and not use it if the subs can't keep up. Thanks for your input!
  4. I have a $300 Samsung. Great pictures, crappy at picking up bass. I'm no pro on camera's, but I don't think a $1000 camera is going to pick bass up that well. Think about it, you have a tiny mic trying to reproduce soundwaves coming from a huge by comparison sub. It's not gunna work very well. Find a camera that get's good video or pictures and forget about trying to pick up bass with it.
  5. Those wheels look great! Good job on the calipers too, but I would have gone with a grey that matches the car. How do speakers that fire into the sides of the seats sound? Are they a little muffled or does it not make a difference? The Door panels look awesome either way.
  6. I live in Utah, but have access to Hill AFB, so I can get "strong beer". I hate Utah just like everyone else. If you're going out to drink and not going to a club, you have to go to The Bayou in downtown Salt Lake. They have the best imported beer around!
  7. So I finally got around to finishing the install. The box is resinned, sanded and painted. The paint color is the same as the truck, Celery Green. I did flush mount the 6.5"s so they don't look like an afterthought anymore. I'm very happy with the quality of the set-up. It gets loud and moves enough air (sealed box) to vibrate the rear window pretty violently. I'll have to try and get some video of that. Anyways onto the pics....
  8. Can you please give me a quote for one Lvl4 12" to 84056. Thank you.
  9. What vehicle is this going in? For wiring go to Darvex, they sell it by the foot, Sonicelectronix is a little higher in price but has more of a selection. 1/0 gauge at least for power/ground, and 10 or 8 gauge for speaker wire to subs. Big three upgrade. For an alt I'd say depending on the number of amplifiers you run, if one amp probably a 270 alt. 300 ANL fuse. Like I said I'm still learning too, so I hope no-one gets mad at me for taking a semi-educated guess here.
  10. If you're on a budget, than 4000 watts is going to be hard to achieve. You didn't say anything about a budget, so if the sky is the limit, then do some research. I'm kind of a newb in the right way to set up car audio and this site has helped tremendously. Look around on here alot, any thread that looks like it might have something to do with any question you have, open it up and read. To do what you're talking about watts wise I'd say you're looking at atleast a grand in wire, batteries and alt. Add in your subs, amp and box... you're baddest system in town is going to be a pretty sizable chunk of change to play around with. Do it right and do it once...do it wrong and who knows how much you'll end up spending or even if you'll stick with it.
  11. It sounds like you've already made up your mind, get them and have fun. Like everyone has said, there really is no issue with underpowering them. You will have enough power to run them just fine for everyday use, should be alright.
  12. Thanks 412 CVX. The subs are two ohm single voice coil and are rated from 100-1000 watts rms.
  13. It's not a question of 750 verus 900, it was mainly a question of if the amp was seeing a two ohm load. I haven't hooked the system up yet. I had one sub and one amp in my other truck to make sure there were on air leaks in my boxes and it sounded good and loud. But when I took it out and put my 10 inch sub and 500 watt amp back in, the 10 seemed to sound just as loud. So thats what got me thinking.
  14. I'm just making sure the system is wired correctly. Thanks to everyone for the help. I think I understand what you guys are saying. So I could put a more powerful amp on those subs if I only listen to music and wouldn't really have to worry about blowing them if the amp is tuned right. Man when you start getting all technical, I had no idea about ohm changes in music. Good inf, thanks.
  15. So the amps should be seeing a two ohm load is what I should have asked. Are they seeing two ohms?
  16. Thanks for the replys. **Hollywood** the amps were benchtested at 936 & 934 watts.
  17. So I have two Kicker zx750.1's running to two Boston Acoustics SPG555-2 subs. So one amp to one sub. The subs are single coil two ohm, the amps are rated for a two ohm setting. My question is are the subs seeing the 900 plus watts that the amps put out at two ohms?
  18. I finally got off by butt and put the enclosure in my truck. I didn't run the wires or hook anything up. I just wanted to see how it fit and looked all put together. I am very happy with the end result. I think I will take the top piece back off and flush mount the 6.5 inch speakers. They kinda look like an after thought right now. Anyway here's how it turned out. Side window is pretty dirty, sorry... Should be pretty loud with the subs pointed up right behind your head!
  19. No real update yet, I've been kind of lazy this weekend. I did however get the top re-cut and put the whole thing together to see what it looks like. Here's some pics. I screwed the top no from the underside so there are no screw heads to see, I think it came out pretty good.
  20. Sorry man, I don't have anything to say about your problem except what has already been said, but those wheels are sweet! If I'm thinking right those are old school AKA's. I don't remember who made them, but about 12 years ago I wanted to put those on an early 80's Nissan to make a god awful gaudy bagged mini. I wouldn't rock them now, but they bring back memories of my vision. I hope you figure your problem out soon.
  21. I know this is a couple weeks old, but from what I've read on the subject, in the Tline sticky, your box seems like it would be good. I didn't do any math to see if your figures are right, but it looks good. I've read you can tune your box higher than the Fs of your speaker, but not lower because of unloading. Post some pics up of your progress. I just planned out a TLine for a Kicker Comp VX 10. It's a double bend, sub firing up and ported up also. Don't know if I will build it or not yet. Good luck on yours.
  22. They sound great. I'm sure they could put out some good SPL #'s if they were in a ported box, but I listen to rock/metal so no ported for me.
  23. Thanks Brandon, I want to put a Nissan KA24de in it and turbo it, but we'll see.
  24. This is the first box/enclosure I've ever built. The sub boxes are 1 cubic foot sealed. They will get mounted inside the enclosure with the amps infront. It's all 3/4 inch MDF. I should have done 1/2" MDF, but I didn't think about that when I drew out the plans and got the wood. Oh well, it's just a little extra heavy. The enclosure is 53" wide, so it should be a tight fit in the truck. I have to cut a new top piece. The one in these pics is 3/4 of an inch too narrow form front to back. After that I'll put one set of Alpine SPS600's in the top piece next to the subs. Eventually I'll prep it for paint, but that will be a little while before I can get it painted professionally.
