  1. Direct leads = no push terminals. Just wire that comes straight off of the tinsel leads. I'm not sure if it's been proven to be better or not. I've never had a problem with push terminals.
  2. Hmm..did you try unplugging the RCA cables? It kind of sounds like a ground issue but I can't be sure without actually having the truck in front of me. Try unplugging the RCA's and if it doesn't stop then check your speaker wires.
  3. It's a sealed box? If so then you'll just have to mess around with the placement. As far as the pulsing, is it like a dirty rumbling noise? Does it go away if the car is off? Does it go away if you unplug the rca cables from the amp? Also, what kind of Head Unit (radio) do you have? Sorry for all the questions, but if you can answer them all we'll be a little closer to solving the noise problem.

  6. Like others have said...all the way flat isn't necessarily the best. I would just set it to where you like. The RTA may be the end all be all of "flatness" but if you play a song after that and it sounds like ass, how much did you achieve?

  8. It's pretty much the same as a sub. A coil can only take so much thermally and that's final. If you play it too low you risk mechanical damage. When you raise the crossover you get rid of the possibility of mechanical damage so it seems safer.
  9. Hell yeah, I understand. I've had my 18" for two months now and it's just sitting there lol. But it'll be more worth it if you got EXACTLY what you wanted (which is usually the hard part)
  10. I know it's out of your budget but I would check out something from Incriminator Audio. You don't see people using them as much. (That was the point right? to be different?) And personally I would save a lil money and get what I want the first time instead of looking and looking and looking and having to settle for something if what I want doesn't pop up, but that's me.

  13. power compression is completely irrelevant at low power like this. irrelevant because you talked about if they're the same model, which they obviously arent. you cant say "they'll probably be louder" because you cant make assumptions. you'll probably be wrong if he listens to you. Where is it obvious that they aren't the same sub? And I never said they would definitely absolutely be louder no matter what? I said probably which is all anybody can say without testing? And Alpine...why is everybody wrong? Like I said earlier if I'm wrong then correct me. I have no problem being wrong.

  15. Yea what I was thinking. I have an pully like that. Mechman guy I talked to told me about it. But, he called it something else I believe. Now, putting in a bigger alt I can see. But, they said with all stock electrical. Weight is the only cause to me on stock. And not really loosing horsepower as it is more/to much weight ya car has to try to move. Like I said I have a 122cid 4cyl sohc and Since day 1 I have had my system in it. SO, now I am curious what it will do if I took everything out. No no, what you have is an OVER-drive pulley. Its smaller than the stock one (so it spins faster) so that when your engine is at idle the alt may be spinning at 1500rpm still. An UNDER-drive pulley is BIGGER than the stock one so it barely spins and hardly sucks any juice from the engine turning. The alternators take the turning of the engine and turn that motion into electricity so naturally the more alternators you have the more power (horsepower) they take to turn. Remember, NOTHING is free on a car. You add something to the belt system, it's gonna take power to turn it. EDIT: to the reply above, is that standing weight or rotating weight? Rotating weight is what you want to get rid of first. Idle rpms are 1000. But, it is bigger then the stock one. Im good when it comes to working on stock. But when it comes to all these add ons, I am still learning these things. I am not afraid to admit I am still a noob on a lot of the big system builds. I got a lot of help from here. Great group of people here. And mechman 220 amp focus svt alt with the bigger pully under it. Sorry I dont know to much about that. Im trained in a lot of areas on vehicles. Just now learning what needs to be done for the big systems. Oh my bad then. I've never seen an aftermarket alt come with a bigger pulley.

When you start to get really high up (power wise) it gets harder to get louder...ever wondered why? The sub heats up, becomes less efficient. Otherwise you would gain 3db every time you doubled power.
  18. IF the subs are the exact same model and the boxes are equally efficient... Then in a perfect world it would be exactly the same. But in the real world the two with half power would probably be louder. Less power compression.

  20. Those with Alternators making a LOT of power will lose horsepower. The power has to come from somewhere. That's why hardcore performance guys put under drive pulleys on their alternators. It reduces the power that the alt steals from the motor. If you have a big V8 or Diesel then you probably won't notice the drop in HP but those with a smaller engine might.
  21. Read, read, read, and read. If you think your amp will work properly off of 4 amps of current then you need to read.
