  1. Will do as soon as i get access to a dmm. Should i be going with 31.6v (500w) or 34v (581w) with that tone? 81 watts over rms rating shouldn't be an issue should it?
  2. I am having a similar problem with my SA-8 v2. I was playing some Mt Eden - Sierra Leonne and after about 4-5 minutes i held my hand infront of the sub and i could feel heat radiating from about an inch away. I touched the dustcap and it was hot, not warm and if i had to guess it was about 60c the heat was even creaping into the cone on what little is exposed on these subs. This temp change happened from cold/cool in about 4-5 minutes of playing. My setup is as follows, SA-8 v2 D4 wired to 2 ohms in aprrox. 0.6 cubes with a final tuning of about 39hz (prefabbed box, not ideal i know) I am powering it with an Alpine MRX-M55 (581W @ 2ohm on the cert that came with it) The settings on the amp are, Gain - Nominal Sub Sonic - 24hz LP filter - 90hz Bass boost - 1db @ 45hz I don't really know what to think of all this, not noticing any smells coming from the box either. What do you figure my problem is? is this an issue to worry about?
  3. I was going to ask, is there any point in soldering (with an iron obviously) a bare end of wire for connection to an amplifier? It seems that the wire gets pushed down (crushed even?) pretty good by screw terminals.
  4. Mentioned this a few pages back, Please tell your friend that he needs to take it back to the "installers" that did the work in the first place and get a reaction video.
  5. I would LOVE to see a re-action video of this re-build from the guy's who butchered the install that made this all nessessary. Has the name of the outfit that fucked it up to start with been revealed? cause it should be, thats just not right.
  6. I upgraded to a SA-8 v2 from an Alpine SWR-843D. The Alpine was in a sealed box and if i had to guess, one SA-8 v2 is easily as loud as two of the Alpine. I had them on same amp running both for a bit, an Alpine MRV-M500 (not at the same time) so it was a fairly easy comparison.
  7. This thread definitely influenced my decisions in building my new set-up. XS Power XP750 and Stinger 1F cap for 550w rms. I am hoping to stay in the 14's all the time with that.
  8. Thank you very much Joe X for those spec's, it is much appreciated. I don't really have readily available access to tools to do a box fab properly, so i broke down and bought a box almost identical to the one design you posted. It is 24x13x9 and tuned to 34hz it didn't give me a port width but i figured it's got to be 1 1/4 cause the pictures don't show a 2nd bend in the port and that seems to work with a 27" long port (25" physical) in Torres. After the displacement of the sub the tuning goes up to 36hz. Does 28hz still a good sub sonic filter level? or is that to wide of a spectrum?
  9. I meant box and port dimensions to go with the recomended volume and tuning. They say .5 to .75 cubes @ 35hz even those two box sizes would be nice to see.
  10. Does Sundown have a recomended optimum enclosure size specifications for this single SA-8 sub anywhere?
  11. I'll sneak one more question in here. How important is having a sub-sonic filter in this ported configuration? The amp this will be powered with has a 15 hz 24db/oct. filter do i need a higher frequency LPF?
  12. That RE calculator produces way different results than Torres. All the same numbers and RE says it will be tuned to 32 hz.
  13. Should i use anything like polyfill in a box like this? I have only built a couple of sealed boxes this ported stuff seemed like witchcraft to me up until not to long ago.
  14. Close counts in horseshoe's, handgrenades and now ported box design. Really though, honestly how much better could i get it?
  15. I think i got it right this time. 12x20x12 exterior with a 10.5H x 0.75W X 17L port gives me 0.7ft cubed net @ 35 hz, if i'm looking at this Torres program right. My only concern with this design is port noise, not sure if it will be an issue with the 3/4" width of the port?
  16. Could not give you an honest answer. I basically just went a little lower than my sealed 12" is supposed to do and the suggestion of 35 on the website. I figured that would give me a decent balance of SQ and SPL. Never built a ported box before, this is all new to me.
  17. First a thank you to all who have replied so far. I would like to keep the dimensions under the 21x13x13 i am allowing myself with a slot port tuned to aboot (Canadian joke there, eh?) 38 hz.
  18. Thank you for the suggestion. Wow! quite the difference when i plug the RE numbers in to Torres. ETA - Those aren't my max numbers just my ideal ones, trying to get this to fit behind my seat in my ext. cab Ranger
  19. Hello SMD Forums! I am looking for some opinions on a ported box i designed for a SA-8 D4 V2 subwoofer. It will be powered for now with an Alpine MRP-M500 pushing 500w @ 2ohms but from what i've read i should get something with a better sub-sonic filter this amp only has a 15 hz filter I have an area about 21x13x13 to use and this is the box i would like to put it in. It's about 0.62 ft cubed after sub & port displacement if i did my math right. I don't want or need it to hit the super low gut wrenching bass i just want it to hit a little lower than the Alpine 12" Type S in a sealed bassworx box i am currently using. What do you folks think? given the criteria i have, is this what i should be putting it in? Thank you advance for suggestions and opinions.
