  1. I was wondering what are some ways in which I can get better sound out of my mids in my door. Car is a 95 Trans Am, the JL Audio mids and tweeters are in the factory locations. I have seen some people using polyfill and I have seen some people use deadening. What all can I do to seal up the door as good as possible so I get the best response from my mids?
  2. I have a 95 Firebird and I will be installing a new four channel amp soon. I will have Jl Audio components in each door. Mids, tweets, and crossover. And I will have two Crescendo 6.5s Mids in the rear factory location. My question is will I need to install some kind of in line crossover for the crescendos to keep the really high pitched frequencies out ?
  3. When a person makes kickpanel pods or door pods to add a midbass driver, how does the small internal air space of the pods affect the midbass on the speaker. Some times it is hard enough to get midbass out of the door speaker with much more air space. I could see the small air space playing a bigger factor when people add larger 8" drivers for midbass that would take up even more room inside the chamber.
  4. Hello everybody, I'm planning on doing a build in my 2007 Chevy Impala soon. I plan to put my Obsidian 15" v3 D2 in a box, with specs that are yet to be determined, and power it with a Sundown SCV-1500D. Also, I'm installing a Kenwood DDX372BT in the dash. However, the part I'm currently looking for help on is my front stage; I did some looking and I think I've decided on Focal. Before deciding on speakers I figured I'd get a matching sundown amp (SAX-100.4 V.2) for my mids and highs. From what I've read in these forums, Focal has pretty good components; After looking around I found Focal Performance 165AS components and figured they would be suitable for my front doors with the tweeter in the A-Pillar. Since my vehicle only has two stock locations for tweeters, I wasn't sure if I should buy 2 pairs of these comps and put the second pair of tweeters angle mounted on the rear pillars or possibly the A-Pillars as well or If I should look into a Coaxial speakers (Factory rear deck is 6x9s). This thought brought me to the contemplation of these two sets for the rear deck: Focal Integration ISC 690 and Focal Integration ISS 690. So at this point in time I'm at a road block, So I come to the experienced car audio buffs of SMD asking for assistance. My questions for you: 1) Do you approve in my choice of In-Dash receiver? 2) Do these components (165AS) seem like a viable option to pair with the substage. If not, what do you recommend instead? 3) Rear Deck: Focal Performance 165AS, ISC 690, ISS 690, or something else? 4) If you think I should run components for the rear deck, where would you mount the tweeter? 5) Is Sundown SAX-100.4 V.2 a suitable amp for my front stage? I know it seems like I'm asking a lot... that's because I am. I have faith in this community to point me in the right direction. Thanks for all your help! -DT!
  5. This isn't a Vs. thing, more like me asking to lean on your experience since I have no good way to really test these drivers, no where that I know of in MO carries these brands.. So I have my front doors and install finished and perfected, but my speakers are a little weakers than I would dance for, so I am using some tax monies to try to fix that prob and I want your allses helps! I run a 3 way active and have a mini DSP 6x8 on the way and a sub about to be installed, so consider it a 4-way active system I guess, and its in a single cab 2006 Silverado 1500 truck. I am currently running Jl audio CS200 2 way component tweeters and 6.5s (I am going to replace the tweeters soon too) and dayton audio 3s in the doors. I run midbass something like 125hz - 300hz, possibly as high as 600hz sometimes, I've been toying back and forth. The thump is ok, but I want it louder, with more power handling and more chest rattling thump, the closer I can get to take my breath away the better. I am running a Jl audio 360/2 to the midbass, but I am considering also getting an amp for the midbass that has 200w per channel and better signal to noise ratio, because the 360/2 kinda sucks there. I am leaning towards a pair of CDT-ES06+s on a Jl audio rd400v3, but I want your suggestions! My budget is something like 600 absolute max, 400 would be preferred. Thanks in advance!
  6. Hey guys, I need some help... I have a 2002 chevy 1500 ext cab and Im trying to build a high-end system in it. Im only 16, so its a big project for me... I got my truck last august for my birthday, and my parents bought me a HU, and some door speakers on a little amp. It was great, but I knew I wanted at least a single 12 in there. I went with 2 12's in a under-the-seat box. 2 alpine r 12's on 2 rockville rxd-m4's in a ground shaker box. It was cool, but I just kept wanting to upgrade, so I sold one of the amps, and put a sundown 1500D on both the subs at 0.5ohm. It rocked, and still does 2 months later. I want more... the 6.5's and the 4x6's dont keep up with the subs, and im upgrading the subs anyways, both my dad and uncle want sound systems in their cars, and im selling them each one of the 12's. Im deciding to go with 2 sundown x15's on 2 sundown 1500D's. Big money, i know...... Audio kinda sucks..... I have a box designed in sketchup for the subs. I realized that even with the 4 speakers ive got now, they dont really keep up as well as I want them too with the 12's, so I know they wont keep up with 2 15's on 2 times the power. I am keeping the door speakers ive got now, but im adding 4 crescendo pwx 6.5's, i found some kick panel replacements for my truck at an audio store that was closing near my house and got them for $30, what a steal, theyre like $200 everywhere online. So I want to move the alpine 6.5's into the kicks and put 2 PWX 6.5's in each door... Is this possible without too much modding? The little pods in the doors now house a 6.5 and a 1.5" (i think) tweet. Id LOVE if I could fit the 2 6.5's in that little pod without messing anything up or having to mod too much. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, Trey

  8. I am looking for a cheaply priced 4ch. amp, to run two 8" RF Punch Pro mid bass and two RF Punch Pro 5.25" and two Punch Pro bullet tweeters, 5.25's and tweeters will be on a crossover. The flip down monitor I am getting is made by Performance Teknique, it looks like a nice monitor with good reviews but I have never heard of the brand. When I was looking for a 4ch. amp, I came across the Performance Teknique ICBM-900.4D. It's 75w RMSx4 @4ohms, 100w RMS x4 @2ohms. So it will power the 8's good at 4 ohm, while the other channel should power the 5.25's and tweeters pretty well. Only problem, I have never heard of this brand of amp and have no clue how well it will perform. It look's pretty beefy and if it could do rated or a little more, I would be happy. Has anyone had any experience with these amps or know whether or not they're good? I will eventually get a new 4ch. to match the brand of whatever sub amp/amps I get, but would like something for the time being. I was also looking at a Soundstream STL-4500, 500w 4ch., 80wx4 @4ohms, 125wx4 @2ohms. The Soundstream is only a class A/B though, so I am not too sure on that either. Input is greatly appreciated but please don't bust on me for looking at these amps, lol. They're only temporary solutions for the winter and I just don't want something that will struggle to out power my head units build in amp. Thanks!
  9. Hello Everyone, I have two 4x6 speakers that are fairly new.I have used them a bit but now they no longer produce any sound when hooked to the head unit.I know that the wiring is all good because I hooked up a new speaker to that channel and it worked fine. The 4x6's both look new there are no rips in the cone and no dents or anything on the magnet. What could be causing them to not work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  10. I have been hearing how loud and clean the Rockford pps8-8 for the pass year, but have not heard them myself are they any good? My original plan was to use Beyma 8mi100, but I now have a child and don't see it responsible spending that much money on a hobby. Can these Rockford compare with the Beyma in loudness or clarity or both?
