if you mount these in the plastic panel, put a ring behind the plastic for the speaker to screw into. i would bolt the panel to the metal so the plastic panel doesnt flex as much. if that plastic flexes, it'll sound like shit.

where did you look up mounting depth? ive always seen the CTX was 3" deep.

pm me if you want to talk about trading.

well a few posts above i quoted something a guy from SSA told me with putting them right into the panels like that, and yeah i would put medf behind it for the mid to mount to

but he is basically saying make a small enclosure using my door panel and the inside panel, which IMO sounds like a good idea

but before i go and do that im gonna try a few more things.. once this weather gets better of course

I had the same problem with mine, But with the 3/4ths MDF ring it gave me just enough room haha.

yeah, what i can easily do is flip the mdf ring over and it'll stick out 3/4 instead of 1/2 (due to the flush mount) so i can try that and shit

Here's a way that I'd do it.

Mount the speaker in the door panel in place of the factory grille.

Make and stack a series of rings to go from the cutout on the plastic panel to the stock mounting location (the metal of the door.) screw the rings to the door, and glue them together to get them out far enough to align with the door panel.

Your speakers will look like they are just mounted on the door panel but they will actually use the door as the enclosure just like you want.

yeah thats almost like what is posted above except without the fiberglass, and this involves more cutouts, which i may try before i try fiberglassing.. doesnt look like it would be so much fun to remove fiberglass if it didnt turn out right

Well, I've done it once before and it worked out pretty good. Not the easiest way to go about it, but it is simple and effective. If you have no experience fiberglassing, then I'd try doing what I said first. You should get a good result.

but will the front of the speaker hit the panel when you do that? stick a small allen wrench in the speaker grill in the door and see how deep it goes until you hit metal, or wood.

well my RSD mids hit the panel (on excursion only) which is why i had them crossed around 90-120hz in that range.. but my adapters were 3/4"-1" (they were on an incline the 1" was at the bottom corner and it decended into 3/4" up top to put the speaker on an "upward" angle) and i hit with those the surround hit

for those of you with my type door panels, when you mounted the mids in the door how much of the door panel did you physically need to cut?
