Benji0687 Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 So this past weekend I was going through the garage, and I came across a box of about 8-10 JL 10W0s that are either blown or the surrounds rotted. I couldn't bring myself to throw them out, so I started looking around online for recones. I found the link below, and wanted to see what some of you who are more familiar with recones think. And how hard do you think it would be for me to do this? I've never done a recone like this (the only ones I've done you just had to glue the surround and spiders to the basket, whereas this one is completely in pieces). S15_Silvia Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 (edited) Hmm...the only thing I'd get confused with is how far the coil goes down into the gap. I guess you could take some measurements from the soft parts of one of the blown woofers...like checking the length from the bottom of the cone to the very end of the former. Other than that though, standard recone business EDIT: Forgot to address the spider...once you know how much of the former should stick out the back of the cone, drop a spider in, let the cone/surround/former assembly rest in the basket and mark a line on the former where the spider needs to be epoxied? One of the other things that I'm unsure about is the lack of tinsel leads..do I reuse the old ones or buy new ones?
