Guest dropthabeat.com
hey guys wassup. my set up is listed in my sig. this is the issues. first off i had a 15" btl in a 3.5cuft. box tuned to 35hz facing up towards my trunk lid. i kept losing leads and beating the living HELL out of the spiders by the first week. we blamed it on the firing close to the lid area. then went to a 12" hcca orion, lasted a month before the coils cooked like chicken, no broken leads though and it sounded great doing so though. then i threw in my back up 12" btl and it almost destroyed itelf the first day!!! box is 2.5cuft. tuned to 32 hz. now get this, the gain on the btls was at 2/3!!! i heard of these things handling the 4k amps all day!! i got a 2k amp!! got a set of rcas off of the sub preouts from the alpine, my preout voltage is 2v (10 kohms max) and it seems like this amp has mad power. the sub output level isn't a bass boost, it's just a level adjusment. my voltage on the car ranges 13-14v. any thoughts?? Chris
hey ray, i'm an engineer so i know what youre talking about, but how would i set my amp with a meter? what am i looking for? i just never done the procedure before. thanks. As far as I know, you take a DMM & play a couple of test tones say like at 35hz & 40hz. Then without your sub connected, connect your DMM to the amp just like the sub. If you're an engineer, you should have no trouble calculating the proper voltage that your amp should be holding steady at during the tests. Slowly adjust the gain until you get very little or no flux of the output sine wave. Test it like this at a comfortable listening level. <-- That's pretty much all I know... Hope I didn't just make myself out to be a fool... jsmoke222000
I agree with ray, clipped signal all way. distortion will kill your subs very quickly. Alot of people think that distortion is something that you can hear. this is not always true. I would reccoment getting a DMM with a scope on it. They are kinda expensive. With a scope you can properly set your amp to send a undisatorted signal to your sub. Quote Jared Nixon A.K.A.
