Jason_D
while i was playing last night, i noticed one sub was moving more than the other, and there was a funky smell...... thaught it may have been a coil, and today i think i pretty much confirmed it. now i dont have a volt meter, so i just (at very low volume) ran it at 1 coil at a time, and 1 dosent work is it recone time? or is there anything else it could be? i did put the speaker cables directly onto the tinsel leads to make sure it wasnt the terminal. it just seems a bit odd that only 1 coil went
Azagtoth502
What do you have running it? But yes, sounds like recone time. Jason_D
an spl dynamics s2000-d have 1 for each sub, and the other sub is fine. this one was purchased 2nd hand tho, so not sure how the previous owner looked after it. he had 2 up for sale, and 1 needed a recone. maybe he know this one was on its way out? Florida is a bit far for me dude, i live in London lol how hard is it to recone a sub tho? wached a few vids on youtube and the hardest bit seems to be lining up the coil. does a recone pack come with the (cant remember the name now) things to hold the coil centre? other than that seems pretty easy.... bet im wrong lol if its pretty easy i may give it a go Edited April 12, 2011 by Jason_D
Jason_D
upon closer inspection, the coil does work. when i connect it up, the cone will move about 5 or 6 mm. using the same speaker cables, when i connect the other coil, it moves 20 mm not exact measurements but you get the idea. any ideas what the hell is up with this? Jason_D
right, the coil finally stopped working on saturday night. just been playing around with the subs, and when i was playing a 20hz tone through it i could hear a rattle coming from where the spider joins the cone, and where the tinsel leads go in. this wasnt a scraping, it was a rattle, and was definately coming from the sub. i have made a video of it, just gotta wait for my bro to get back and get it on the pc and upload it. im hoping its just lose tinsel leads and can be repaired with just a new dustcap, and not a total recone. Jason_D
20 hz tone? gee wonder why it shit itself. let me guess free air too huh yeah, after i heard the rattle i took it out the box and played it quietly, had about 10mm movement tops. just cause its a 20 hz tone dosent mean thats what killed it m8. and it just so happens thats 1 of the frequencys that i get tested on, so yeah i do play it loud @ 20 hz. my other (brand new) sub is fine, as well as every1 elses in the same competition format. now could you please offer some usefull info or go away Edited April 20, 2011 by Jason_D
