"Monster" v.2 Prototype Due Soon

Recommended Posts

D2 is together... specs are closing in on where I want to be -- based on what I got from this D2 I think the D1 coil should be correct out of the gate and that the D2 will be good with a tad bit of tweaking :

D2 Revision 1 Coil Specs with 5-layer Z v.3 spider (Z v.3 uses 4 layers) :

RE : 2.93 ohms (series)

FS: 36.87 Hz

QES: 0.329

QMS: 4.326

QTS: 0.306

LE: 6.53 mH (still a bit high but we'll work on the shorting rings on another prototype to get this down)

VAS: 43.24 L

BL: 28.128 NA

MMS: 383 g

CMS: 48.56 uM/N

SENS: 89.93 dB 1w/1m

BL^2/RE: 270 (goal is 300 or so for this driver... revised coil should do it)

I'll do some beating on it soon... have tons of SA-8s to ship... took a short break to pull specs and post them.

Funny story... I grabbed the original Monster v.1 prototype the other day for the first time in a while so I could power test some amps (as it's damn near impossible to blow the thing) and thought "MAN this thing is heavy!" as it's about 90 lbs... then I grabbed the v.2 and realized it's not nearly as heavy.

Well thinking back I never weighed the v.2 prototype and it is alot lighter than I assumed it was. Amazing how being so busy you forget to do simple things.

All the shaping I did on the steel cut off WAY more weight than I thought. Which means, what ? I can use standard frames without them snapping off. So what can that mean ?!

*drum roll*

Everyone meet the NS v.3 motor.

Minus the top shorting ring and a few minor internal changes that we worked out on the Z v.3 design

... and we'll have them in the 1st half of this year.

Due to the size of the motor in 15s and 18s only.
