RickyFriery97 Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 so all the boxes ive built have been MDF and ive always used a nail gun im gunna use birch on this next box this is the box design.. should i use screws or nails? reason i always used nails is the mdf is so easy to split with screws anything else i should know about using birch over mdf? D-train-13k Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 i used screws in my box. held up just fine. basically the nails and screws just tighten the wood together while the glue actually does the work. i did a screw about every 2 inches. Quote he wouldnt be the first to say they did a 167 with a system like that (one that clearly DOESNT), but i have to say, he didnt beat me anywhere, ive never competed against the guy. If he thinks his does a 167, mine would probably put him in a coma. :hairtrick:

RAM_Designs Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Just pre-drill and you'll never have to worry about splitting the MDF. I've literally never split MDF when pre-drilling. And every 2" is way too close...just a waste of time and screws.
