Buying subs second hand

with a multimeter, check the resistance of the coil(s). they should generally read +-1 ohm of the stated impedance. to get a more accurate reading, put both meter leads together and measure the resistance, then measure woofer resistance and subtract the 2 numbers, this helps avoid factoring in the internal resistance of the multimeter.

there are other ways to check also, one way you can tell is to just smell near the coil area or the pole vent to see if you smell any burnt coil. also push down on the CENTER (NOT THE EDGE) of the cone to see if there is any rub. if there is you will feel and hear it also.

check the spiders for damage as well, move the cone up and down with your fingers and inspect for broken glue joints or tears.
