texasbred
Well no box for me,my just got a speeding ticket. It's all good though, I'll play around with the design and measurements more and may just do one 18 instead. The dimensions are ideal for what I had in mind as far as using space in the hatch area though. Quote 2011 Chevy CC Texas Edition 2wd. JustinWilson
Good idea to play with designs for now, you will need more port area. I have 2 -12's with a interchangeable port, tested a port with 11in^2/ft^3 and found it to be 4db lower than 13.5in^2/ft^3. Proper tuning is a huge difference. mrd6
I have heard the AQs do well tuned around 36hz and still reach down plenty low into the twenties once broken in. Try raising your tuning a bit and see if you can get that port area per cube to 16 for these subs and see if you can still make the two fifteens fit. If not, youll be much happier with a single 18 or 2 12s with optimum box specs than two fifteens that aren't able to reach their potential. Sorry about the ticket, that sucks. Hopefully you can get to this box sooner than later. Good luck! texasbred
Still playing with dimensions, can't figure it out though, every time I add port area(on several different designs) I have to add so much length to the ports to get the tuning down. I never knew building a box the right with(calculating port area) would be such a pain. Edited May 28, 2011 by texasbred Quote 2011 Chevy CC Texas Edition 2wd. texasbred
Haha, I don't have pics yet, I haven't bought the wood yet either. That will be next weekend. However......I have come to a possible sure design. Box dimensions: Height- 14 Width- 38 Depth- 18 Slot port Port Area per foot- 15.06 Common Walls- 3 Port height- 12.5 Port Width- 4 Port length- 24 Box net volume before displacement- 3.32cu.ft. Tuning freq.- 36.87 Now just trying to figure what what I can and can't run in this box, I can fit one 18" on the top. It would be tight but it would fit. BUT I have never ran an 18, so...I don't really what kind of volume is required for one. One more question, the port will be 2-3" from the back hatch door, will this be ok? mlstrass
you're going to run an 18 in 3.2cubes????? 15's in 3.25cubes suck, I don't care what others have said. I've tried them in all sizes of boxes and 4.25-4.5 is MUCH better. 2 12's in 4.5-5cubes net, 16^2 port area per cube with a slot port, tune 35-38Hz and you'll have a nice daily set up... fecupe2001
just for your information, the hdc3 is basically the same DD 3500, if you are thinking about using a small box with a tiny port on those subs, you are going to fail big time!!! if you don´t have the space for a proper box, then i suggest you to just go with a pair of smaller subs...
