zeppyrkr
So my new amp arrived today and when i was taking out the Power Acoustik that was in there i noticed on one set of speaker wires the positive was really dark compared to its shiny gold original color. I started cutting up the wire trying to see if the blackened wire would end. About 1.5 ft from the amp the speaker wire was like this. Also when while taking it apart the wire would have a weird powder/smoke come off it. It was the strangest thing ever, it seemed like it was burned or possibly corroded? Any ideas? should I be concerned although if it was the amp there is no worry because the new amp is in.

Autruche
Speaker wire is still just wire, and like every wire, it has a maximum amount of current you can put to it. It sounds like you were trying to put too much power through too small of speaker wire. That can get the wire pretty hot and it can discolor it or even make it brittle, especially if it's not pure copper, like CCA. At least that's what I've learned from experience. What size is the wire and how much power were you trying to put through it. Need Test Tones/Sine Waves?
