kam311 Posted June 29, 2011 Report Posted June 29, 2011 Okay I'm trying to plan out my big 3 so that when my 1/0 wag comes in this week I can cut all the lengths quick and put the terminals on and connect it! But i can't seem to find where the engine ground on my 2001 dodge ram 2500(cummins diesel)is, does anyone know where Chrysler ran the engine ground on these trucks? And if I can find it, would it be okay to run a run of 1/0 wag from the alternator cover to my ground on the battery? Also this truck has two batts, should I do the big 3 on the whole setup or just the batt that connects directly to my alt? Thanks Quote so far... dkahns51 Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 There should already be a small ground running from your battery to your engine i believe.. so just follow the wire. Quote **Clicky>>My 2009 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport Buildlog<<Clicky** I'm messing up 98% of the time
6berry Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 You can run the engine ground from any bolt that connects to the general body of the engine. If the alternator cover is a solid piece of metal attached to the engine then it would work for a ground. You don't have to do it but it would help with charging if you connect the positives and negatives of the two batteries Quote 1999 Audi A4 1.8T::: 4 - DC Level 3 10's in a 4th order Rockford P6002 on Subs for now (3-3.5k coming eventually) MB Quart ONX4.60 for Mids and Highs Boston S50 Components in Front Boston S65 Coaxials in Rear 40 Sq Ft of Second Skin Damplifier Build Thread UBL 1948 Plymouth

kam311 Posted June 30, 2011 Author Report Posted June 30, 2011 Ok good deal, and I don't even have to connect it to the battery ground right? I can just ground the engine to the frame from what I understand? Quote so far... BeatBox Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 1st wire, neg on battery to a bolt with clean metal under the hood 2nd wire, engine to another bolt with clean metal 3rd wire, pos on battery to alternator now on the wire on the alternator U can run a fuse, IMO i never do but its fine to do it either way. with fuse its just the safer way Quote

It does have to be the battery? I dont get how that helps the Amp flow, im confused Quote **Clicky>>My 2009 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport Buildlog<<Clicky** I'm messing up 98% of the time
kam311 Posted June 30, 2011 Author Report Posted June 30, 2011 Alright cool, and one last question lol I have a left over 7ft strand of cadence 1/0 awg ( they say it's copper, seams like cca to me) should I just run that from batt to batt piggy backed on the 4ga that already there? Would that help charge instead of replacing the original 4ga with a piece of my monster 1/0 awg? Sorry for all the questions, batteries are not my strong point although I am learning pretty quick Quote so far... I dont get how that helps the Amp flow, im confused id leave it the way it is, its just one big circle basically from what understand ur also grounding the alt to the car itself/chassis when grounding the engine. some alts like mine, dont have a actual bolt on the alt to ground it off so grounding the engine is the next best thing on mine i went a bit over board: 2x-0g and 4g from neg on battery to chassis 2x-0g from engine to chassis(different spots) 1x-0g from alt to battery 4x-0g to rear batteries from alt 2x-0g from neg on battery to rear batteries I learned from Derick you cant over do it, at least in Integra's that is lol Alright cool, and one last question lol I have a left over 7ft strand of cadence 1/0 awg ( they say it's copper, seams like cca to me) should I just run that from batt to batt piggy backed on the 4ga that already there?
