Why not just run 14v..... you said jeff drops 6 volts 3 secs after starting music? Wow...I have 1020 amp of alternator 10 runs of 0g 6-xs 14v batts on 2 dc 7.s at .35 each... I've clamped almost 18k out of these amps..at idle I will drop to batterys resting voltage of 14.8 full tilt then after 30 secs it will start dropping... why cause my alts aren't putting out shit at idle... now at 2000rpm and I use a throttle cable to hold my rpm up.... I drop .2.. I like running my voltage right at 16v....I can play back to back songs.. the only problem I have is if I play something real low subs will get warm... but the mayhems take 4300watts each like a champ

Rowland is running two db drive 7.5k and a bunch of xs power d1000s iirc. He also has a van so I think he only has one alt under the hood. I agree with the earlier comment that if he went to 12 volt he would drop to at least 8-9 volts unless he ran twice as many batts as he has now.

I don't and will never have close to that much alt power. 14 volt i would need to pull my 270 xp and get that sent in for an external regulator as well. and have no idea if my car electronics can take charging around 16 volts. if i ever did end up going 14 volt i would rather just do 16 volt for both alternators and use stepdowns.

seems i'm kind of stuck in the same place as rowland lol. limited to low alt power. except i'm limited by space as well. at this point i think voltage is gonna drop no matter what lol. but i'd rather drop 4 volts from 19 to 15 than from 15 to 11 though.

1 alt. 9xp 1000s for the 4 3500s @ 1 ohm

or

2 alts. 10 3100s for 3500s @ 1 ohm. 200.4 @ 1.3 per channel. 125 @ 4 per channel. and car.

just going off the 1500-3000(competition/daily) rms per battery suggestion of XS it should be close, especially with the amps at 1 ohm. i've always wanted to do 16 volt just so even if i did drop voltage would still be fairly high.

put like that is a tough call.

10 d3100's has WAYYYYYY more capacity than 9 xp1000's plus having that 2nd alt charging the substage. even after that 200.4 you would have more alt power going to eet.

i definately wouldn't consider running step downs as being an option with that 200.4 in there. you would probably need about 5 of them.

honestly for daily beating the 12v scenario sounds better, as there is just that much more reserve in batts and having whats left of the xp270 on the substage.

glad your going to 16v. but hey if you getting a 2nd alt, you can jus leav 1 12v and 1 reg to 16. dont let a single alt fool you. a single alt with the right electrical/ electrical connection will work. all the chevy,ford guys gots room for more than 1 alt easily. for toyotas, if all you can fit is 1, maybe 2. get the best electrical for it. my single 200 amp alt on a single v pulley off my 4 cyclnder engine works fine. full burps i do drop to 15s and 14s. but i have did every lil electrical upgrade. solder every lil connection from grnd, pos, speaker wires, 8 full runs of each, and i still have a few more things to touch up. my single alt setup with 11 batts works pretty good compare to lots of chevy guys with 3-4 alts with 4-6 batts. treat your batteries like your wife, they will feed your amps like your kids!!!!!lol

16 volt batteries and charger getting ordered soon just picked up 100 ring terminals and a hydraulic crimper as well. i'll have 8 runs from front to back. 6 for 16 volt 2 for 12 volt. lol nice analogy toad i'm honestly surprised at how well you're voltage does with the power you're running lol.

can't remember the exact year or model but the second alt i'm putting on is an excessive amperage 300 alt for a 96-02(i think) tahoe. should be making the bracket next weekend. just got it back from EA with the external regulator

quick question bout running 16 volt though. transpo external regulator. on the + of the regulator it says if it's for a 16 volt system it must have a 16v switched power supply. would this work?

87 to regulator +

other thing i can think of is wire the regulator + to the 16 volt battery positive and just put an inline switch in it, but that'd be a pain in the ass having to switch all the time. rather avoid that.

you got it with the relay.

i've seen a lot of people just run a 12v switched wire to the b+ post of the ext regulators.. it will make the thing go nuts and essentially leave your alt wide open doing as high of voltage as it can.
