stockfox91
Hey guys, I'm going to be purchasing some Hertz HSK 130's in a month or so and I am curious if I can continue to run 16awg wire safely to power these mids/highs at 75w RMS? Will 16awg be safe for 100w RMS if I decide to upgrade my amp later? I will be running roughly 12 feet of wire with a passive crossover. RooTxBeeR
What ohms are you running them at? gally
i think they are at 4 ohms Quote 2010 Chevrolet Cruze Radio --- pioneer mvh-200vbt Front/back --- alpine type s 6.5" Sub Control --- Pac LC1 Sub Amp --- GZPA 1.4K Sub --- GZNW 15XSPL D1 Battery - GZBP 12.2500X
RooTxBeeR
If your running them at 4 ohms, and doing 100 watts, lowest you wnt to go is 18awg. 18 awg can only handle 125 watts, Quote On 11/20/2012 at 8:54 PM, AMI CUSTOMS said: Turned mine up today at a light, guy next to me his steering wheel started moving and he looked over at me like I was a magician lol. gally
go with 14amg....its the smartest choice....better if the wire is to handle a lil more power than the speakers are rated Quote 2010 Chevrolet Cruze Radio --- pioneer mvh-200vbt Front/back --- alpine type s 6.5" Sub Control --- Pac LC1 Sub Amp --- GZPA 1.4K Sub --- GZNW 15XSPL D1 Battery - GZBP 12.2500X
RooTxBeeR
Ya, 12 14 or 16 awg would be best, anything smaller than 16 could risk running to much power for the wires, and anything bigger is just overkill for mids/high speakers Quote On 11/20/2012 at 8:54 PM, AMI CUSTOMS said: Turned mine up today at a light, guy next to me his steering wheel started moving and he looked over at me like I was a magician lol. elastic
i was told to by a car audio shop that stock speaker wire would be fine for ~ 100 watt per door. i also made good experience with that. just run your speaker wire to the HU and then crimp it to the stock wire. stockfox91
Thank you guys. I was considering running 12 awg to be safe but I will try to make it work with my existing wire. I really appreciate all the feedback!! Quote Jeff's 1991 Ford Mustang GT
