i have the rockford fosgate r500-1. i have it mounted on the side of my box in the trunk. it is running at two ohms pushing a 15" lanzar max pro sub woofer. the gain is about halfway. it wont stop overheating and i don't know what to do. i have a crap load of 12 v computer fans but i don't know how to install them so they don't drain my battery. does anyone have any ideas?

Ground the fan to your amp ground, and plug the positive side into your amps remote turn on. Is it hot where you live?

is the box carpeted ? does the amp have vents on the bottom of the amp and it being mounted to the box blocking the vents? try putting some spacers in between box and amp so air can flow under the amp, that should help

How's the bass boost on your amp? Double check the final ohm load too.

the bass boost is also about halfway and i am running two 4 ohm voice coils parallel for a 2 ohm load.

would need alot more info than that, way to many variables involved, car, type of box, size of box, ect

Wait, has your amp been protecting? Or just getting hot? I had 2 r500.1's and they both ran hot. But never protected and they were fine.
