D-Train's door panel build.

Recommended Posts

You my friend did not do enough re-search before tackling on this. I suggest you do more searching that way you can get these doors done right the first time and not waste a whole lot of money needing to redo mistakes.

This is chop mat, fiberglass cloth/mat etc.

ahh i did see this stuff. so do i just lay it on my panel and resin over it? i dont have to stretch it or anything again right?

No just tear off some pieces of it, don't cut out squares of it or nothing.

I usually mix up some resin, brush a little resin onto the doors. Then lay down some mat and wet it out with a chip brush with some resin on it. After that lay down some more mat overlapping the previous piece and continue untill the while door is covered. Well just the area where you stretched you fleece, keep adding layers untill your satisfied. There just doors so they won't need as much mat as a fiberglass sub box may need.

Might want to pick up a fiberglass roller too, let it soak in acetone before using then roll over the chop mat you just laid down and wetted out so you can work any air bubbles. Ever since I started using better quality resin and mat I don't really have any issues with air bubbles. If I do they are very small. So I dont really use my roller too much.

hey man sorry i didnt see this until just now. ive actually moved the entire door panel build to the total build log. which is in my sig it has more up to date pictures on it.

a buddy of mine who ive been pretty much taking most of the advice from when doing this said that i probably shouldnt need matt, but he is going to check out the sturdyness tomorrow. i put another layer of resin on it and its pretty firm. (this was after i found out not to just keep stacking resin on resin) its only two layers so it shouldnt be that bad.

i dont want you to think that im not taking your advice by no means. im just really strapped for time and im trying to make everything work as quickly as possible.

im definitely considering making new door panels that are alot nicer later on down the road. as well as doing my neighbor a custom fiberglass box.

thanks for all the advice though i appreciate it.

but like i said i wont be updating this thread anymore since i have moved it to my build log in my sig.

No pressure man, I mean they are your doors not mine ya know.

Just a FYI though, there is no structual strength with just resin and fleece. If you were to take a piece of fabric and soak it with resin a few times like you did you will easily snap it in half with your hands.

i did not know that. ill definitely consider adding more strength to it. is there anything thats fairly inexpensive that i can do? my buddy said a resin/bono mix, or resin/sawdust mix would help too. i know matts not that expensive. but every penny counts these days

I wish I would've started my pods before for you to see because I don't plan on cutting my doors. I wanna be able to revert everything back to stock someday minus the tweeters.

I plan to make a mold the speake vents with fiberglass with bolts going through the vents where it can be removable. It will hold 2 6.5s hopefully :P
