dinger48 Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Hello all....so with the amount of activity that this site sees I figured I would throw this out there. I have a Kicker ZX1000.1 and the thing is stuck in a cycle of powering up and going into protection mode at about a 2-3 second interval. I have nothing hooked up on the output side as far as speakers and no RCA's. I have around 13.8V input and a good remote turn-on. The amp was working fine the other day and cut out a few times. I just powered down my HU and fired it back up and everything worked fine for a little while. I took the amp apart and cannot find anything burnt up. Anyone have any idea what is wrong with this thing? Quote

It is currently sitting on my test bench hooked up to a test supply. I have 13.7V in on the power and a jumper wire to the remote turn-on. Most everything that I can test with my DMM is dropping a couple of volts when I hear a clicking noise (cannot pinpoint where) and that is when it is going into protection mode. I put another 1000W amp in its place in my car and that works fine. The broken amp doesn't smell like anything is fried and I went over the whole board and cannot find anything burnt up....I don't get it. Maybe some type of thermal protection?!?! Quote
D-train-13k Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 i wouldnt say its a thermal protection. it would be burning hot mostly if it were. i would say maybe its just defective. im pretty sure the kicker amps are made on a factory line. could quite possibly be just a small piece broken on the board that you didnt notice. least thats my guess. Or some mosfets went bad and are causing overcurrent protection to trip. Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed.
