which forum system is it?, we have this forum set up so that steve and I have to approve your acccount, its a pain in the ass but we havent had any spam bots in a while.

it's the phpbb, so I guess I must do the same then?

find authentication plugin for for respective forum, they help out, not 100 percent effective but they work.

find a place that provides plug ins for whatever board you use, should be somthing like registration authentication or something along those terms.

I tried a couple of mods for invision thats suppose to elimante the bots, and it worked for a little while, but then the bots programmers soon figured out a way past that, so now we just have it setup as admin approve the account, and we just watch email addy's, the bots are easy to see becuase they almost allways have some funky ass emal addy.

DH: drop the $150 on an invision board and then do what me and dave do........approve the accounts manually. The bots are like a disease.....1 gets in and then 20 follow......so far manually approving and spotting shady email addys has worked better then anything else. Having a forum like invision that has a support team you can call any time is REAL nice too.

even with all this though , you cant be lazy and just not wanna approve each one. theres another forum im on that they just dont even care anymore because they "dont have the time" to approve everyone. IMO if you dont have time to maintain a forum then you dont have time for a forum. That goes for any software.

thats what i mean.......get a good forum and then manually approve. Trust me they still TRY to get in. Every single day i approve 1 person for every 20 bots that attempt to get in.

wow, that's crazy, how do you manage that, plus work, the hootie, plus 5-6 other forums you post, youtube, myspace. Meade, I gather you are a reaL BUSY MAN
