T-line for a Tang Band 6.5"

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I've been thinking about designing a smallish t-line to go into my dorm room for quite some time now. I plan on using a 6.5" Tang Band woofer, the specs of which are: Frequency range: 38-800 Hz • Fs: 38 Hz • SPL: 83 dB 1W/1m • Vas: 0.416 cu. ft. • Qms: 2.65 • Qes: 0.47 Qts: 0.40 • Xmax 13 mm • Dimensions: Overall diameter: 7", Cutout diameter: 5-1/2", Depth: 3-5/8". According to my calculations, I would need about 28 sq. in. of port and a line length of 97.5" for tuning of 36hz. My main questions are; should I bother adjusting the line length to tune the box up by just 2hz, or is 36 going to be close enough? Also, I've seen and read a lot about adding a sort of dampening material throughout half of the line; is this actually necessary/required in order to have proper response, or is it just an extra step that someone more experienced would take in order to get everything they possibly can out of their setup? Lastly, I'm open to any constructive criticism of my box, so what do you guys think? Sorry for the long read, now here's the box:

I know this is a couple weeks old, but from what I've read on the subject, in the Tline sticky, your box seems like it would be good. I didn't do any math to see if your figures are right, but it looks good. I've read you can tune your box higher than the Fs of your speaker, but not lower because of unloading. Post some pics up of your progress. I just planned out a TLine for a Kicker Comp VX 10. It's a double bend, sub firing up and ported up also. Don't know if I will build it or not yet. Good luck on yours.

thanks man. i didn't know about the tuning up, but now i do remember hearing that subs in a t-line will hit an octave below the tuning of either the box or the sub, not sure which....

I have an E8 in a t-line with the sub and port on opposite sides of the front and it wangs. Are you saying that if the sub were closer to the port it would be louder?

Yep. How much of a difference it makes is all in the room/car you have it in. But from what i have noticed the bigger the area the more it matters.
