What tools do you need to correctly install an alarm?

Recommended Posts

I have installed a alarm myself, so this is what i would do

Solder

Soldering iron

Heat shrink/ Electrical tape

Wire cutters/ strippers

Various screw drivers and you might need a socket set depending on your car

Also self tapping screws will help mount the shock sensor and Brain

Thats pretty much the basics, Do yourself a favor and solder ALL your connections, avoid T-Taps.

You DO NOT want your connections coming loose on something thats supposed to help protect your car.

ive done like 30-40 of these alarms/remotestarts, and this list is perfect, get good quality electrical tape, I use 3m cold weather stuff, stays on in cold weather and sticks amazinly, also you need to have a ddm, its not even an option, you need it! also before you just go into the car with it, cut out any wires you dont need, get the brain with all the wires setup, with the wires you need going to certain areas grouped together, trust me, makes the job 500% easier!!! :D worth it for sure

I have always cut my wires to legth sense my first instal, Makes it way easier then trying to hide a rats nest.

What exactly is a ddm? I have never heard that term before.

Digital Multimeter, You can pick them up just about anywhere, Autozone has 2 decent models

The one i use

The one my buddy has, This one has a built in battery test lights to let you know if your starting battery is in good standing.

yea, I do that to, I get them grouped going each way, mount the brain to a good spot, route the wires, cut to length, and solder them in, clean install, and is much quicker :D

So now that I have my vehicle I decided that in my spare time I would just mark off all the wires I need for the alarm install.I noticed that the Xpresskit PKALL doesn't state that its compatible with my truck. Is there something I'm missing or do I need to order a different kit? I want whatever is the easiest to install. So hopefully no keys needed and no other items required to program. Thanks in advance

Yeah I actually printed out some stuff from that site recently for this install and yeah the DDM was throwing me off and I had no clue what it meant. You would think Digital Multimeter would be DMM instead of DDM LoL
