Got a question about some DJ equipment...

Recommended Posts

Been considering buying some DJ equipment for small get togethers around here, but I know NOTHING about it lol. What am I supposed to look for in equipment, what do I need, and is there any low priced, decent quality DJ setups.

Bassless once again. Can't seem to keep a system for more than a few weeks :)

Saving for a '06 Nissan 350z, look for build around June 2012.

you can buy self powered speakers (built in amp) where you need to supply a signal and you are done. Or, you can buy speakers, amps, mixers....etc... look here....http://www.parts-express.com/ they got good stuff and cheap stuff too. They seem to accommodate customers with prize and variety.

If its going to be mobile look for things with handles and that are rack mountable (usually 19")

Dont get speakers with carpet covering if people smoke around it as it as the smell will stick to it for ages.

two PA towers and a sub will do for most part.

Loudness is no substitute for musicianship, and partial deafness is no badge of honor. I was once able to hear this advice.

Gemini has a couple decent lines of cheap powered speakers (speakers with built-in amplifiers). If you're doing mobile gigs, either two 15" loudspeakers, or two 12" & 1 or 2 subs (personal choice, I always have one sub per speaker minimum at larger gigs)

GVX12P $379 - http://www.zzounds.com/item--GMNGVX12P

GVX15P $419 - http://www.zzounds.com/item--GMNGVX15P

GVX SUB18P $549 - http://www.zzounds.com/item--GMNGVXSUB18P

That's going to be about the best you'll do for the price. EV has the LiveX series, which are by far some of the cheapest & best sounding speakers so far. Other brands include the QSC K series, the JBL PRX series, and the JBL Eon series. It all varies on how much you're wanting to spend. Gemini for the price is great, but if you can stick it ou to EV, QSC, or JBL, then you should be okay.

how about nice bose system you can plug your Ipod in

You can plug an iPod in on any speaker system, just find a 1/8" to XLR/TRS/RCA jack cable... Plus, some of us don't have thousands of dollars to dish out on a set of Bose line arrays...
