kr15 Posted January 3, 2012 Author Report Share Posted January 3, 2012 When I had my eXcelon, I set gain on amp to where it wouldnt drop below 12.7v full tilt. Gain was pretty low, and was likely set below full unclipped output, but was still more power then my cresendo for sure. I just put the Alpine HU in a few days, and I have not yet checked gain and voltage. They are both 4v outs, but I think the Alpine is clipping easier then the eXcelon did. Im going to have to check it out. I was metering yesterday and demoing pretty hard, and I was clipping when I was trying to meter..so when I get a chance, I will readjust all gains. I also will probabley wire at 2ohms. (Its still 2500 rms). There really is no sense in pushing an amp this big that hard on these subs, all that extra power is just added heat that the subs cant do much with. I actually metered lower with the Powerbass then with the Cresendo, likely due to clipping and or voltage drop. But it goes to show you that bigger isnt always better. I still dont know where I peak. To the ear sounds like 34 or 35hz.
