CortezDTV Posted August 8, 2013 Author Report Posted August 8, 2013 Crap, have to lift motor yesterday, going to put it all back today hopefully, My steering hit my old exhaust, and the hooker headers I had I didn't want to use because they hang so low, but they don't rub so back on they go, Also converting my cable clutch system over to a hydraulic, just figuring out the sizing, placement, and how stiff I way the pedal, Hoping to have it all sorted out in a week when my insurance actually come into affect Starting saving for a high dollar rear end, I think I'm gonna see if I can snag a ford 9" instead of spending 500+ on headers, and 500 on the hydraulic clutch kits they sell ( I bought the parts and am going I make a bracket for about 150$ so big saving considering the slave and remote full master are about 120$) SCSB Santa Cruz Speaker Box Build logs: Daily Driver Lemon Marquis 2 american bass 750.1s 350.4 on 14 focal 6.5s sq 945 on 4 hertz tweeters Mystery subs http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 The Mustang 'dubbed' Shirley the project from bullet holes to badass http://www.stevemead...cond-skin-time/
COLTON94 Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 Have you thought of the explorer 8.8s? Cheaper then 9" and if you get a 98+ iirc you can get em with trac loc and disk breaks. I know they bolt into s10s not sure how fitment would be on a mustang but might be worth looking into. Could save some $$ and get disk brakes
CortezDTV Posted August 8, 2013 Author Report Posted August 8, 2013 Definently doing disk when I change the axle, and torque arm I need to cage the driveshaft with the torque arm. I havnt looked into what I want too much because its hard to tell what te probem is, with the exhaust off, I need the car quiet so I can really hear what's making noise, I have a ton of "play" in the driveshaft so I would t be surprised if it has a few broken teeth and some worn splines SCSB Santa Cruz Speaker Box Build logs: Daily Driver Lemon Marquis 2 american bass 750.1s 350.4 on 14 focal 6.5s sq 945 on 4 hertz tweeters Mystery subs http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 The Mustang 'dubbed' Shirley the project from bullet holes to badass http://www.stevemead...cond-skin-time/
COLTON94 Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 Play in the drive shaft could be just the u joint. My friends silverado started makin a noise like the axel had blown up couldnt go above 40 without it becomeing a death ride and was just a bad u joint. Not saying you havnt checked the u joint already just tossin a idea out there maybe check the cheap small things first before you quit driving the car and spend a few stacks on a new rear end. But 8.8 s should only be $300-500 depending on milage and what gears are in em a much cheaper option the the 9" by the time you count for disk conversion

boom50cal Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 8.8's are rock solid for the most part. $300-500 is way overshooting it. I could snag one out of a front end colision 4x4 explorer with factory 3.73's and limited slip from a local salvage yard for $250 with decent disks on them. Pull the disks and the break lines and I could get it for less than that, if it's still there. 9 inches aren't cheap, but if you dropped that coin on that 306, a fully built 9 inch with a spool and BIG ass disks on them is a MUST have investment. Actually, a sweet thing would be 99-04 Cobra IRS into it... Not sure how difficult it would be but I imagine someone has to make a kit. COLTON94 Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 I would think there would be a irs kit at all. But yea the vics came with a 8.8 and it would be more then enough to handle the 306. I belive 4x4 models or maybe the sports came with a higher splined axel for more strength if ur worried about it. I cant imigine that 306 puttin out more power then my high compression cammed 350 and im only runnin a 28 splined iirc 10 bolt. And everyone says its over kill and they 8.8s are supposed to be much stronger then the 10 bolts are
CortezDTV Posted August 9, 2013 Author Report Posted August 9, 2013 I have a crown vic, it's just too wide, the explores will fit but I have to have 17" wheels and some may have a slight rub in extreme situations with the axle which I don't want, I plan on driving this thing when I sort the suspension So I'm if I'm gonna spend 500 to 1000 on the rear, For 500 more I can do something wild like it talking about and go independent rear and I would probably get some 17 modern ford alloys to match the vintage ish style But I would have to do the front to match, coil over or something, as is right now it sits like a gasser about 2" lower in the rear It's all big dollars I'm doing research right now, I ordered everything I need for the clutch minus the hose and special fitting because I went with a slave I can get quickly and is common 93 camaro slave 1" bore to match the willwood 1"kit My only consern right now with that is the special fitting for the line and my petal has about 1.75" of movement, the slave needs to move 1" ish it can move 1.2" ish The bracket shouldn't be too bad, I got opposite mounts of what most people do so I can have 2 bolts and adjust the movement as well as on the petal, so the drilled holes don't have to be in the exact right place Good input guys!
