boom50cal Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 A 99-04 Cobra IRS won't easily fit in a 65 because it's WAY too wide(70.5 wide IRS vs a 68ish fender width at widest point) but is probably the coolest and most driveable option. A stock 8.8 from an explorer will give you problems due to the passenger axle being like 2 inches wider than the drivers axle. My dad put an 8.8 with a 3.27 and full spool in a 65 'vert a long time ago out of a 94 or 95 GT car. Damn near fit perfectly he said, but he used drums instead of disks... Cost became a factor and a basically stock 289/C4 wasn't making much more than 175hp to matter anyway. Pretty much man, 8.8 is the best bet on a budget. Post 94 Mustangs also had 31 spline axles in them, but pre-94 was 28 spline. I think in 1990 the Rangers/Explorers/Bronco 2's received 31 splines. CortezDTV Posted August 25, 2013 Author Report Posted August 25, 2013 I will probably pick up a set of torque thrust wheels For now I just got another set for my wheels ordered, washed and waxed her up real nice. I still have a lot of little things to do install, just barely out the seatbelts in and the diver door panel on, but it's moving along, being drivable really motivates me I also talked with a couple people who have done/seen/drove alot of mustangs and I think in going to drill new mounting points like Shelby did with the cars back in the day. this changes the stance and will get it handling quite a bit better.
