What should I look for in a H/U?

Recommended Posts

So i'm starting my first build and im going down to best buy this weekend to pick me up a h/u and I don't know what i should be looking for exactly. I got stock speakers in my car and i'll have a Fi X12 sub and a AQ750 amp. My limit is $150ish.

Got any recommendations or tips for buying a head unit? Its just gonna be from best buy so nothin fancy..

Thanks for any help

I love how kenwood sets their controls up and that you get a remote with most of them. Especially if you do a lot of highway driving, it is safer if you have a remote control for your hu because you don't have to move your eyes off the road to turn it up or change the song. Also What are you wanting to play cds,mp3,ipod? With Most kenwoods you can get a specific cord for an ipod and run that directly from the back of the unit to the glove box. I like that feature so i can keep my ipod locked up.

Alpine, pioneer, kenwood exceleon, jvc or sony are the ones i'd go with.

For a budget radio i loved my sony for 100! Looked great and never gave me problems. Had the Aux cord

Not Really, that model has 4 volt preouts. If you wanted to install a mids and highs amp you woild have preouts for that also.

look for something that supports bluetooth streaming (a2dp) you want good pre-outs, easy controls and easy navigation (easy to use and learn)

in the 150 range I'm going to say pioneer... You can get a 7 band eq and 4v pre outs. I've had this pioneer for a while, I blew the pico fuse which is an easy fix and still worth it. I've owned JVC, eclipse and alpine too. pioneer and JVC are my tops.
