HT sub configuration question!!

Recommended Posts

I am looking to take my old car audio sub and use it for an HT Sub setup. But considering I dont have a lot of experience I figured I would ask.

Questions

1. What is the best positioning of the sub and port??

2. What plate amp around 200rms is best bang for buck??

3. What is best tuning frequency??

I appreciate any help that is given!

Thanks

Mike

I wouldn't have a clue on the port positioning but look on parts express for Dayton plate amps they have decent ones for cheap, and also tune low like 25hz below if yuu want the full movie experience as some movies drop down real real low on explosions etc

I was thinking around 20-25hz. Im looking at the Daytons and a couple others, but the Daytons seem stout and at the right price for power. Im gonna be building towers, a center ch. and a pair of bookshelfs in the spring after my car is finished!

Other thing you need to take into account, If it's a car audio sub, it may not have been made to handle low low bass. Just an FYI.

fuck the plating. look at what the main metal used is. you could buy unicorn blood plated terminals but if its just covering up dog shit, whats the point

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha

id say you want to have the sub and port facing away from you. in a home it is very easy to hear noise. mine is setup port forward sub forward. i always load it off a wall to try and keep noise down

if the room is not carpeted then sub port down works well

Bash is good cheap power

sub 20 hz is a great tuning if it will be for movies only. if you plan to play music too keep it at mid 20s

Thank you so much for that insight. Greatly appreciated. I live in an apartment, soon to be townhouse, and flooring is carpeted! So sub/port back it is.

The subwoofer is an Onyx LSv.2, it will play flat from 20-50+ hz. So with a tune about 25 I should be good for all ranges of music/movies, correct!?
