Tapping noise from sub?

I have just picked up a DC lvl 4 18 i already have a box but i have no amps in my car at the moment so i hooked it up in my garage to my low powered home audio theater amp just to test its working ok ....anyhow the sub is making a a loud tapping noise when the bass hits. i have pushed on the cone and cant feel the coil scraping or anything...i also noticed my home amp turned its self off then came back on again after a few seconds when i turned it up loud ...i was wondering if it could be my home audio amp maby this sub is too low of an impedance for it? would that make the sub make a tapping noise even at low volume tho? the subs is brand new from my local distributor.. i am going to test it as soon as my real amps arrive but as im sure you can imagine im now extremely worried the problem is the sub itsself.

Don't mix car and home audio. The sub is getting high sound signals because its not being ran in a filter. The amp is shutting off because the sub is drawing too much power and you keep trying to play it you're gonna smoke the amp.

The amp has a low pass filter on the sub output channel can only hear bass through the sub...I do think it might me drawing to much power from the amp tho but could that cause the sub to make a tapping noise?

you're more than likely running the amp at a much lower impedance than it is designed to use. most home theater speakers are like 6-8 ohms and the highest you can wire that sub is to 4 ohms (if you got d2 coils). stop using it before you blow the fuck out of the home theater receiver.
