Trim ring around sub?

i was wondering if these trim rings were important on the subs and when you mount them.

i was hard for me to mount the subs with 1/4" bolt and using t-nuts.

so i removed the ring and mounted them pretty tight to the baffle.

u cant put your fingernail in between.

but i wanted to get opinions if it is important to use them, like a gasket?

it just helps to seal it. thats all. Not gonna affect anything as far as i know.

i thought thats what it does but i also thought it made a sub look prettier.

so there is no downside to removing the trim?

Im like 99% sure there really isnt anything wrong with it. I almost had to do it with my lvl 4 15" because I thought it wouldnt fit in the box with the gasket on. but it did. As long as its tight its good.

Yeah, the ring is cosmetic on the outside and help seal on the backend. It won't hurt to remove it as lnog as you are doing something to back an air tight seal where the frame meats the wood.
