Critique this setup

Hey guys. I'm strongly considering putting together a small DJ setup for myself- it looks like I'll be moving into a house with a few friends next year, and I'll be supplying the music for our get togethers.

Mixer: Behringer Xenyx 302USB (really all I need, pulls audio straight from USB for much better quality than the headphone jack)

Signal processing:

-ART CleanBoxPro Stereo Balanced/Unbalanced converter (outputs of the mixer are RCA, so this will balance them and put the signal up +4dB and balance it for the XLR inputs of the xover)

-Behringer CX2310 Crossover (good reviews, does 2-way stereo + 1 sub out, seems to be what I need)

Amps:

-QSC RMX 850 (already own this, it's solid as hell)

-Behringer EPQ450 (relatively light-duty amp for the mids/highs)

Speakers:

Forevrbumpn 12" in my sig in a T-Line for bass, powered by the QSC...the Jeep is now sold.

Undecided on mids/highs, someone wanna help me out?

Basically, is there anything I'm missing or have overlooked? And does anyone have an opinion on the products I've selected so far? I know people sometimes get a little wary of Behringer, but their stuff (mostly) looks nice.

EDIT: The signal source for all this will be my laptop. Also going to attempt to do all EQing via the laptop- we'll see how that works out.

What are you going to be using it for? Small house parties, large parties, what? Using car components for a DJ system isn't exactly the best option. Behringer is budget gear, it works most of the time, but there are times it makes you want to bust the windows out (literally...) What kind of budget & music are you looking on playing? Also, tip of advice, do NOT do any EQ digitally, 95% of on-PC EQ's are absolutely horrible. You're better off throwing down $50-$75 for a cheap dual 15 band EQ from Radioshack or something.

Ever thought about just looking at a set of active speakers (amps built in to speaker). Gemini has been coming out with some nice powered speakers for a cheap price (compared to the likes of EV, QSC, JBL, Mackie, etc.) and are great for small DJ's starting out. I'll try to help in any way possible.

This setup is solidly in the category of house parties. The 302USB mixer by Behringer has pretty good reviews- I feel like it might be one of their more trustworthy products. I know their Europower amps are frightening.

As far as the budget- I already purchased Dayton mids/crossovers and Selenium super tweeters to use as my main speakers, so those will need to be externally amped.

I'd say that I'd be willing to put $200 into a used amp on eBay, and put like $300 into the rest. That means mixer, EQ, unbalanced to XLR converter and all supporting cables.

And what's the problem with using the car audio sub for bass? A ported or t-lined 12 would be plenty loud in a house, even without the astronomical sensitivity that PA subs have IMO

Looks like it will get the job done. For my karaoke/dj setup at home, I bought a pair of cheap Technical Pro pre-loaded 3-way cabinets...which I took the 12's out of those and replaced them with some badass Eminence Definimax 4012HO subs. Behringer EP4000 (and yes, this amp puts out some fuckin' power!), Teac EQ-20 Equalizer, Audio 2000 AK7615 mixer, and API U-808 wireless microphones. Glad to see someone into DJ'ing and doing gigs...

Their older EP amplifiers are great, rugged & tough, the newer ones aren't exactly perfect but aren't bad. If you can get your hands on some second hand Crown or QSC amplifiers, then you'd be better off. I never said car audio wasn't good, it's just that PA subs are meant for larger environments, but if you're only doing in-house parties, then they probably won't be horrible. Just don't get arrested, please.

You aren't the only one that's been doing that, I've been (slowly increasing) doing that for the past 5 years

i have done a couple parties with car audio equiptment and to tell you the truth most people arn't going to care if it's well balanced or if it sounds perfect or crystal clear or any of that shit. most of the people will probably barely be able to stand up and just want to party with some lound music. your better off saving money and just buying some pre-made dj speakers or build some with some PA 12's and a some horns on a external amp.
