wadewills Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 Hey everyone, Been doing alot of research into 6th order designs lately and have not been able to find a comparison between 6th order paralell tuned and 6th order series tuned. Could someone please explain the differences between the two or point me to a thread or site. Thanks for any help Current Set-Up 2004 Chevy Tahoe Subs: 2 DC XL 15's Box: 8.5 ft^3 @ 38hz Amp: Amrican Bass VFL 500.1 Alt: Db Electric 250amp Batts: 2 Kinetic HC 1200s Radio: Pioneer 3300UB Doors: Pyle Pro Mids/Goldwood Tweets Amp: Alpine MRP-300/Hifonics ZX80.4 Wire: Kicker 1/0 Guage Termlab: 153.1 Outlaw Style @ 46HZ
BigPimpin91 Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 The difference is port orientation. Series tuned has one port firing into the chamber with the other port that is firing into the vehicle. Parallel has both ports firing into the vehicle. BigPimpin91's Banging Music
wadewills Posted December 30, 2011 Author Report Posted December 30, 2011 Yes i understand this part, but is there any adavantages/disadvantages to doing it one way vs the other? RooTxBeeR Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 I have seen diagrams of boxes like these, but never really seen them. They seem insane to build just because they are so wierdly built that it would take a looooot of work to find nicely working tunings and dimensions. But if done right the rewards seem great. The reason i have been looking at them is the ones i have seen done correctly turn out massive numbers on the termlab, but there is a big trade-off between peak spl and frequency responce though. More spl=less freq. responce and vice versa. I have seen both styles but have never been able to figure out why people use one style over the other. dwright27 Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 Irpirate has a parallel 6th. His build is on page 1 or 2 of the member builds section. It's a hairtrick machine. For a series tuned check out out Mikeys Hummer H2, which is also a hairtrick machine. The frequency response and stuff compared to SPL is really because of the ratios and the box volumes, as well as subs and port area. These boxes are all kinds of fun to build and test and tune. So have fun!! It's what the sports about 2006 F-150 4 DC XL M2 18's Walled Daily Driver XS Power 4 DC 3.5kw Team DC Team S.P.L. CJ18 Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 To the best of my understanding, 6th orders are a bitch to get right. They can have multiple peaks and just screw with you unless you get it perfect. Your best bet would be to find someone who has a ton of experience with them and get them to work out a design for you and then do your own testing from there. I have been told that 6th orders can be made to be musical but it will take a ton of testing and redoing to get it right. Personally I would go with a 4th order. I just built my first and instantly fell in love.
