Help building a GP..

Recommended Posts

ok i have two 15 inch kicker l7s and a kicker zx2500.. the local audio shop here is wanting to build a 12 cubic foot box for both of these subs, and have the port on the side of the box.. tuned @ 33hz. The subs are going in a 2000 oldsmobile bravada (basically a chevy blazer).. I'll be running 2 batterys, a DC power 250 HP alt. and a big 3 upgrade. Would this be enough to play in the mid 140s on music? And is having the port on the side as good as back firing the port? The installer said it would help with the rattles on the back of the hatch.. What do you guys think?

It's still going to rattle. On SUVs, sub up port firing to the hatch what works best. Since you have the cone area and power, I assume it would play in the mid 140s, only if the box is built right. More port area is a must, and 12cuft seems a bit too big for those subs. I had 2 18s in a 12cuft after displacement.

How do the Japanese feel about bass?

You know that since 03/11/11

Progene? I just saw that stuff on CNN. They said it makes your junk shrink all up. lol.

im pretty sure the op wont even notice if it gets even smaller.

Btw, if you need some deadenor, pm me. I'll get you some for a good price. It will reduce the rattle noise. But If you are competing, it may or may not hurt your score in SPL

So putting these things in a 12 cubic foot box would be a bad thing? He said the L7s were meant for big boxes, and anything smaller than 12 cubic foot I wouldnt be getting the full potential out of them.. he also said the port facing thge back on 2 door sport suvs was good, but on 4 door suvs like mine, putting the port on the side would be the best idea.

12cuft is way too big.

6-8cuft. Subs up, port firing at the hatch is what you should do. Like everyone else said.

Edit: if you're installer thinks those subs need a 12cuft enclosure...then he doesnt know what he is doing...I would think about going to someone else. Or doing it yourself.

i just called him and asked him to switch the box to 8 cubic foot, and he said about the ports is that if the ports were facing the back that they wouldnt have enough room because they'd be so close to the back of the hatch.. he said if they were on the side, i'd have more bass and they'd have more room to breath.
