140 dbs with less than 200$??? can it be done??

Recommended Posts

Ok guys, after the "1500 watts amplifiers challenge" i took out everything from the sexplorer, is time to move on and try a bandpass for hairtricks using small cone area, but anyways, i was kind of boring and i wanted to try something fun, hitting over 140 dbs with a DAILY box , cheap equipment on small power and very small cone area, all of this things on a big ass cabin :)

1) Step one: Getting a cheap sub, i found a Pioneer Champion TS-W258D4 350 watts DVC 4 ohms for 15$ , it didn´t look that bad actually, price it´s something like 45$ if you get it brand new if i´m not mistaken :peepwall:

2) Step two: Get yourself a cheap ass amplifier, i used my old trusty Almani PA1100.2 amplifier, it cost about 100$ brand new, no complains about this little baby, i´ve abused it with 4 mids for about 2 years now without a single problem, of course, since the sub it´s DVC 4 ohms i wired it at 2 ohms :drink40:

P.S: I forgot to take pictures of the amplifier, don´t think you need them tho, if you don´t trust me then i guess i could take some pics tomorrow if you need me to :peepwall:

Specs:

Almani PA-1100.2

Description

* Soft turn ON/OFF

* Nickel Plated RCA Jacks

* 2 OHM stable operation

* Power and Protection LED indicators

* High efficiency, heavy aluminum heat sink

* Nickel plated power and speaker terminals

* All models are bridgeable and stable at 4 OHM

* Class "AB" Technology MOSFET PWM Power Supply

* Protection circuites against: Overload, Thermal, Reverse Polarity

* RMS Power @ 4ohm: 275W x 2

* RMS Power @ 2ohm: 550W x 2

3) Step three: Get yourself some cheap ass plywood (had some scrap wood on my storage so i didn´t spent anything on this) , screws, glue and wires, total cost: around 32$

4) Step four: Build your ugly ass box with your cheap materials, box specs: 1.2 cubic feet and 17.5 SQ of port with a 40 hz tuning :)

5) Step five: Get your ass to my "SPL Gains topic" and use some of the tips i tested over there, if you haven´t visited yet, check it out, use as many things as you can.

Score is sealed on the dash @ 47 hz, plays very nice from 40 to 50 hz, below or above those points it sounds like shit, lots of clipping on that score since i was too lazy to set the gains properly because i don´t give a fuck about that sub lol, so i just burped rolling up the volume knob of the HU and that was it, also, i bass raced a 139.4 using a song from my boy Decaf wich is constant @ 47 hz, with a couple of tweaks i´m sure i could bass race a 139.9 but i´m just lazy as hell since it was just for fun, hope you guys like it :drinks:

Money spent (without including battery, wires and HU): Around 160$

singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.

Thanks man, it was a fun 2 hours project, and that´s because i wored very slowly since i was drinking a lot haha, once again, i only spent like 20$ since i had some scrap wood, screws, glue, printing vinyl,the amplifier and some cheap wires, but if someone would want to build this same exact system, i guess it would cost less than 200$ without including the HU and the electrical :)

You should grab another sub and make a box run on the same amp, see what cha get.

Should be fun, don´t think i´m getting another sub tho since i want to build a BP now, BUT, a very good friend of mine has 2 pioneer champion 12´s 400 watts a piece, he wants to build a new box, so i´m gonna build it next week before the bandpass and try it out in the explorer, should be fun, a pair of 60$ dollar subs and around 1000 watts, we´ll see :)

Goddamn I thought I was cheap HAHA! :lol: that's awesome, bro

But can you do a fiddy with $400?

hahaha well just have to remember something, it plays very nice but on a small bandwith, below 40 hz it sucks, above 50 hz starts playing like shit also lol, you can´t say it´s a very flat respond box but who cares??? it was fun anyway :

What´s fiddy?? :pardon:

My bad, let me translate:

Good sir, would you propose a sound pressure level of one hundred and fifty decibels would be possible, pray tell, from a combination of equipment acquired for the fair sum of four hundred dollars?
