Id always suggest the bigger battery ether way lol...and you dont need the battery under the hood for it to work. Ive seen several people without batteries under the hood...ALSO...there are a lot of stock vehicles with starting batteries in the trunk and such. Just put it in there and use whatever there was to hold it down on the new batt and you should be good.
