rogue Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 (edited) 13.25 square inch of port? hope this is in square feet lol. way too small! what is port dimmensions? you said you are doing double layers. so do one and gain some cubes to go bigger on port. cross bracing is stronger than double layers and takes up less space. larger box will also help lower the tuning on a given port. Pre-drill holes with 1/8 bit and use coarse thread screws 1.5" and use good glue like titebond II or III. Maybe even use short 45 degree bracing from wall to wall. After this and cross bracing will be hard as hell to break. Anyone that says screws are not stronger (on a standard butt-joint), you are wrong. Ive done tests including glue test, silicon, screws, brads, staples and basically any combination of ways to fasten. I would suggest that you try and make the port as square as possible instead of a long narrow port but with a wall in that space it may be difficult. Quote

Properly glued joints and good bracing is all you need. Doubling up everything just adds weight and takes up more space. Quote

My setup will be for a daily and not for spl although i would be curious on how much db's i will be hitting. There is someone here that has 4 18" lvl 5's all single walled including the baffle and he hit 155 db's. Quote
