SQ front stage setup

Recommended Posts

Right now I have a pair of Eminence Alpha 8's, but I might switch them out for the new Crescendo 8's being as I along with Team Hard Knox is sponsored by Crescendo.

http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/crescendo/111530-mp-series-speakers-xst2-tweeters.html Link the for Crescendo specs.

Along with two tweeter choices.

First is a Vifa: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=264-1028

Second is a Dayton: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=275-040

I was considering adding a midrange to help reinforce the vocals and help smooth everything out.

Etiher this Dayton:http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-378

Or this Dayton: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=285-020

I will obviously be spending plenty of time playing with my crossover points and placement. I will most likely be running 2 8's so ill add to the tweeters as i feel is needed. I dont like my tweeters to be there to much but just enough.

Any input would be great!

Thanks,

Oldsboomer

First off don't get the vifa tweet. Long story short... don't. (if you want the story ask)

Secondly, i have a 5" dayton reference, just like the one you posted but bigger, and i love it. The thing sounds wonderful at moderate listening levels... however, when you turn it up the driver will lose its warmth and clarity. It basically falls on its face. If you have it bandpassed correctly (125-1000 or so) then it sounds great for SQ competition. It just won't get loud.

One thing i have learned while moving towards the SQ scene is look for the frequency response charts. Find a few drivers that work well together. Find a tweet that shines where the midrange starts to die off, and a midrange that picks up where the midwoofer lets go. If that makes any sense.

SQ is NOT about buying mosconi and moral, it is about setup and processing.

i resolve to be a nicer moderator.

Research is your best friend when it comes to speakers but take everything you read with a grain of salt cause the learning curve for SQ can be quite long and frustrating and rewarding, you just have to try many different speakers, crossover points and placement of speakers to achieve your goal.

Amplifies will have a greater tonal sound than speakers will along with headroom and dynamics so your choice in amplifies is a much bigger factor than your choices in speakers, SQ is about the sum of the whole and not one piece of the puzzle.

EDIT: From my research into woofers and mids you might want to check into the peerless HDS series of speakers.

I wouldnt mind hearing your personal experience for sure and what kind of power are you running to your daytons? I was thinking a smaller 2 channel for mine if i do get them

Yea thats what im looking for right now I love my eminence but i will be getting the Crescendo anyways. I know these PA mids are able to play up into high frequencies. But im not trying to make them play that high. I would like to spread the frequencies out between drivers. making each one more efficent.

I looked at what you want and I think you are looking for a 3-way system right? Here is what I would do to get a 3 way.

Tweeter

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=275-070 Had these in my car this summer. Sound really great.

Midrange

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=285-020

Midbass

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=290-306 I have a 10" version of this in my door

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=264-1088

And here is the crossover.

This would work for you too. All the drivers are within 1-2 db of each other.

2005 Ford Focus zx4

AMT's and Planars

18" Infinite baffle
