bumpincruiser
a guy from a local audio shop has the same subs as i do... 2 12 inch diamond D6s and he takes his system out in the winter. im wondering if this might be a good idea. it is definatey not as loud until my truck warms up so im not sure if the really cold weather is very good for them. i live in minnesota so for about 5 months its below freezing and it can get down to about -20 here so does anyone have any input? bibby>Chode
Just play them at a low volume for a few minutes, then turn them on up to normal. Give everything a change to warm up before you tear into it. Just like your engine. You wouldnt crank it in 0 degree weather, and floor it. You wait for it to warm up before the fun starts! MickyMcD
The largest danger with cold weather regarding drivers is condensation on the voice coil. Enough condensation can provide a sufficient environment for a short circuit and can also damage or destroy the glue holding the voice coil to the former. As Bibby has mentioned, just warm them up gradually. This will provide ample time for the coils to get nice and warm whilst running dry. If you can afford it, use a battery charger to keep the electrical up and constantly play very low levels of noise through the drivers when not using the vehicle. This constant noise will keep the coils warm and will prevent condensation, however I know that it is not always practical in the automotive environment.
