Singer Alternator

Recommended Posts

run a gator back belt if you end up needed a new belt, those are known for making sqeaks go away

Well, turns out my belt is fine. I just had to tighten it a little bit more. This voltage thing is bugging me though..! who knew there was such a big difference between 750-1k rpm...

You should check a mechanic. depending on your engine it's just a screw to turn to increase your engine idle speed to about 800-850.

 You never adjust that idle screw.

Did you ever do anything to get that idled rpm up? I am having issues with my Singer Alternator not outputting its correct power when my car is idled and was thinking about upping the idle rpm by 100 or so.

you're lucky guys...try living with a car that idles at 550-600 rpm...if i had and idle of 650 i'd have no issues at all since i got an alt with pulley and stuff but too low idle...

No, I ended up saying eff it and threw my stock alt back in. I got sick and tired off low idle.

Wow, bumping a thread from 10 months ago...

On the note of the idle screw, you need to bypass computer control of the idle before you adjust this screw. A HO alt can require considerably more power to turn under load, than a stock alternator. Also, the low idle may have been just a little too low to turn the alt on.

If the belt squeeled when turning, I'd say the belt was slipping, this can also affect the RPM of the alt at idle, possibly attributing to the alt not turning on properly.

^^ thats what i was gonna say. at the same time to though the computer on the car could be the reason. i was having issues with low voltage and thought it was the alt. sent it in to singer and he tested it, tested it, took it apart and tested it agian. turns out my car didnt like the alt so now im gonna be going with an externally regulated alt with adjustable voltage. with this you can adjust the voltage up to the high 14s for comps and back down to the low 14s for daily driving.

even if your idling low and making 14.x volts your still not getting FULL power from your alts.

i idle at 15.2v but if i turn it up ill drop into low 11s very easy, if i rev my truck i can go full tilt no issues..

basically.. at idle you have good voltage low amps.
