First box build question

This is my first post, so I hope I don't violate forum etiquette. I am building a box myself for the first time and I have a question. This box is going into an absurdly tight location in my convertible and so I'm using 8" subs. My question is, do I NEED to isolate each driver with a wall so that each sub has its own 'chamber' inside the box? I've seen some professionally made boxes go either way. I have little idea what I'm doing and so am not sure of the acoustic ramifications of omitting this wall.

I'm going to have 4x 8" drivers (I had 2x 12", but I decided to overhaul the trunk myself to clean it up, get it looking factory, and still have access to the spare tire) and I want to squeeze them into a 36" wide space. This leaves 9" for each driver ( 7.5" of internal space). If I can omit that wall, or at least only put a wall between two pairs, I can improve my internal space.

What things should I be considering here?

If you are tight on space don't go with separate chambers. List the amp, the subs and the vehicle, also your maximum dims as you plan to do the box (H;W;D).

the separate chamber thing is BS. a single larger chamber has actually been louder in some cases

no, that wall is not necessary. i prefer to leave it out in multiple woofer installations. but say that a woofer gets blown, the other 3 speakers are now sharing more volume than they were with all 4 working. could make for some complications, although i wouldn't play the system with a blown speaker (unhooked, of course) with the dividers anyways until it was all fixed

Yeah I already have a rough design and a cardboard mockup. It's going into a 1998 Mustang GT Convertible and is going to be stuffed into the space not used by the convertible top. I've already ripped out all the innards from the trunk (the "floor" in the factory stang is just a piece of cardboard with carpet over it. Lame...) and built a new floor with a handy access door to the spare tire. The sub box is basically going to go as far back as it can (over the Mach 460 amps) to the lip of the tire door.

I've put together my own system before, but this is the first REAL job I've done. I'll post some more pics as it develops if y'all are interested. And if y'all have any newbie tips or "watch out for this", I'd appreciate hearing them.
