2 ohm or stay 4 ohm

Recommended Posts

Ok ill try to make this sound as simple a possible

I have a rf power 1000 5 channel "newer casing" i have a component set on each of the 4 high channels. I want to get mor power to my speakers by wiring down from 4 to 2. Doing so i was thinking of running tweets on the front channels and midbass on rear channel. All speakers are 4 ohms without crossovers. So it would be 4+4 on the left and same for right, ending in a 2 ohm load per channel.

Question one is can i do it safely without a external crossover since my amp has the x10 button for crossover, or would i need some sort of x over

Question two is would i lose any sound quality since the hu i want has 3 output sets.

Want to get the pioneer AVIC-X930BT if that helps.

you dont find dubstep, dubstep finds you

Links to view the specs of your equipment would help ...

I've never been one to use Rockfords ao even 5 channel amps .... All 2 channel class AB amps for me ...

Yes ... droping ohm loads will lose some Sound Quality, get louder, produce more distortion, and if your amp can hold it safely ... will put more stress on the amp ...

especially if the 5th channel is pushing sub duty ...

My suggestion would be to run a 4 channel and a separate sub amp ...

Is the exact amp i am running

And the hu from my first post

Compinent sets are still undecided but the current set if compinents i have do read 4 ohms at the mid and 4 at the tweeter. From the leads of the speaker itself, not the crossover

As for distortion thats where ray comes in and gets payed to dd1 my stuff lol

ok ... Amp should be no problem ...

anytime you go lower on ohm loads, you create distortion ... the DD1 is only going to tell you to lower your gains to cover up the distortion so you will be back to square one anyways ...

So you have a 4 ohm passive component set ... correct ?? how exactly do you plan to make the "Passive" component set drop to 2 ohms ?? possibly change the metrics of the crossover, or replace the crossover (if you can find one) ... If you go active, you will need to replace your drivers so they will have a 2 ohm load ...

and ... are you sure you have 4 ohm tweeters anyways ?? might want to check that ...

I'm only trying to help ... I'm a Sound Quality guy that is also a Broadband electronics technician ...

so you can guess how many numbers are running through my head to add this equasion up ...

Yea i have passive sets, what i was thinking of possible was to run the tweets one channel. As in front and rear right tweet on one channel and front and rear left tweet on the kther channel and cross them on the amp with not passive crossover. And the same theory on the midbass for the other two channels. Sorry if im being confusing
