Made some custom gauge reducers today.

Recommended Posts

Well I got fed up with having to trim wire to make it fit in my amp(actualy I just was bored and wanted somthing to do), so I made some 1/0 to 4 gauge reducers out of some aluminum. Made these on a manually operated milling machine. Il post some higher resolution pictures later.

is that tip square?

the problem i always have with people putting a solid metal bar into an amp is that it will always have much much less contact area compared to just wire. now if yours is square, then its even more of a problem. it would be better to run 4awg if that's the case.

If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.

agreed. now youre only going to have contact on the 4 corners and where the screw sets on the square. this will create resistance, which creates heat. great first try but make them round for future parts. i wouldnt use those adapters for the same reasons skittles said, they prolly wont even have as much surface contact as 4 gauge

Yeah unless you are real good and you can form it to the size of the terminal and then make the set screw thread into the adapter I'm just not a fan of them.

That was deffinitly somthing I overlooked. Luckily I made the side that gose to the amp on each one I made slightly oversized so I could grind it down to get a good fit. I probably have enough material there to round it out. Hopefully I can save these. If not, they only took about 30 minuets to make. I can make more.

if you look at two difference sized circles on top of one another, you will see that they touch at the bottom and quickly separate. so to get an acceptable contact area you need to be extremely accurate on the size of the insert. give it a shot, little projects are always fun.

exactly what skittles said. IF you cant make it a perfect fit you are losing effective surface area.
